Hey all,

I've kept on eye on the forums for about a year now, and I've been buying from CigarBid for just as long. I just thought I'd finally make a post and say 'hello'.

At the urging of another forum goer, I thought I'd make my first post a hot one. I tend to be a vocal, opinionated person. He suggested that I post a link to a sort-of review that I threw together on the so-called documentary "Bowling for Columbine", which I finally saw last night. It really got me going, so I wrote it last night. I just had to tell somebody! I didn't think I'd be telling this many people, however. :)

I've viewed these forums for a while and I think I know who will chime in! I thought it would get a hearty debate going. Observe...

I was one of those that was disgusted with Moore's boorish attempts at humor through film making. I did rent "Bowling For Columbine", and after seeing the other posts for "Solaris" feel compelled to say that "Solaris"(though I haven't seen yet)would be Oscar worthy when put in comparisson with this tripe he threw to the world.

Thank you for you honest assesment of this travisty of celluoid. I'll save an aisle seat for you.

"Like most liberals, he looks for a dark lining in a silver cloud. They quickly assess blame on everyone but those who are truly at fault. When it is their own ilk that are to blame, they'll usually blame the opposition. They try to make you feel shameful for being a free white American, and even worse if you're a free white American conservative. You're no saint, Michael Moore and neither are your liberal friends. One day people will realize it and knock you down a few pegs where you belong. The rest of the liberals will eventually grow up and become conservatives like the rest of the big kids. Kind of like when you finally traded in your early '90's "zoobas" sweat pants for a pair of khakis. Now, you just laugh and think to yourself: "How funny! What was I thinking back then?!" "

- Is Moore the only one guilty of making vast unsubstantiated generalizations?

Never saw the movie and I don't know if I will, but it seems like the pot is calling the kettle black with your review...

Did you actually have "zoobas"??? Those were, and will always be, hideous!! LOL

Oh, I'm definitely just as guilty as Moore!

Obviously I have my feelings on the liberal way of thinking, and they effected the way I viewed his *ahem* documentary. I just wish he would have presented it in an unbiased fashion.

Of course, those who fall more at the middle of the spectrum may feel it was unbiased. Those at the far left would probably see it as the truth, more or less. Being far to the right, I see it as a liberal attack.

It goes without saying that he has every right to make such a film. I still find it entertaining and I'd probably watch it again, just as I've watched "Roger and Me" whenever it is on television. Equally biased, in my opinion, but entertaining nonetheless. I always like to hear the other side's views. I just wish they were presented honestly and appropriately. I'd expect the same from my side.

Buy hey, there is always room for a little mudslinging, don't you think? :)

There's always mudslinging, but it's usually misrepresented details and un-factual by nature. True for both sides, but at least you acknowledge the existence of a middle group, most here seem to think that's impossible to not be compartmentalized into the left or right...

Ah yes, those middle-of-the-road people. I definitely acknowledge that they exist and that their voice should be heard. I like to think of them as "confused." They'll learn eventually!

By the way...

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone!

I'm just joking on the "confused" thing. I'm a jerk, but I'm not that much of a jerk!

I can definitely appreciate that there are those in the middle who don't really fall to one side or the other. There are plenty of people who keep up on politics and have well defined views on particular subjects, yet they simply don't fit into the conservative or liberal "boxes." Such people probably have a lot less stress.

I have friends who are like that. I just don't tell people that they're my friends and I don't return their phone calls.

Just kidding!

KCPenguinKevin,

Baby kitten killing? Hah! You can't expect a guy to stop that. Where else will I get my food?

Is a baby kitten smaller than a regular kitten?

Cool. Let's move to the Trades board. I'll give you one Opus Double Corona for a half dozen box of baby kittens. Make sure they're fresh this time!

That said, I think we've successfully beaten the dead "baby kitten" horse.

Hey! A baby kitten-horse. Now that's worth a box of Opus!

Many powerful conservatives are heartless.
Many well known liberals are self-righteous hypocrites.
Michael Moore somehow embodies both.
Yet he's nowhere near the middle.

He's a conundrum for sure, but first and foremost he's a loathsome excuse for a human being.

The only thing that prevents me from burning his movie is the fear that Blockbuster would have to buy another one.

Welcome Dkornaus,
I consider myself, to be conservative, maybe not as conservative, as some people here. But not a Bush fan. Definately not a Micheal Moore fan either. They can both go play in traffic, and it wouldn't bother me too much.
That said, welcome again. I will enjoy someone else to argue with, even if we don't agree, we can agree to not agree.

Instead of the name calling and childish indignation, just accept that in this great country, people like Michael Moore are allowed to voice their opions. This would not be possible in ISOM or Iraq, disagree and you disappear. You also are entitled to disagree with MM, but the death threat and other nonsense form later posts belittle this great nation, rejoice in the freedoms that exist.
Voltaire once said "I may not agree with you, but I will defend to my death your right to say it", kind of what we're doing in Iraq right now.

Yo cwilhelmi: What the hell is going on, you have always agreed with what Rick ( The Whining Liberal ) Maven says and now your talking like a conservative. Have my posts shown you the error of your past ways, have you seen the light? If I have helped you come to your senses it's my pleasure and no thanks are needed. JonR

JonR - Maybe you were just too quick to judge, I'm the same, and probably more liberal than you could stand... Try reading more of my posts and you may realize that I'm not a moron like you continually insinuate.

Zoobas were those retarded pants that had zebra stripe patterns on them with elastic around the ankles and they were really baggy. Very hideous!

Hey AlexHill,
I didn't see any "Death Threats", maybe some namecalling, but most of us are having fun here. Please point out the death threats, in this thread, as I can't see them. You trying to read something, between the lines, that doesn't exist????

OK, can't actually see the "death threat", but I could have sworn I seen one earlier!!!

I appreciate that the forums are for fun, but there is also a serious thread here to be discussed.

I accept my admonishment and promise to lighten up.

Cheers !!

I viewed Bowling for Columbine this evening. It made for an interesting 90 minutes.

Every documentary has a point of view or the filmmaker wouldn't have made it. It's not made for everyone to agree with.

For me, the point Moore was making was that we have propogated a culture in the United States where murder is accepted as part of the social fabric.

For those of us who live in large cities, the daily murders no longer make the newspaper's front pages.
