Ghostly Story

This story happened just last winter outside Kingsport, Tennessee, and even if it sounds like an Alfred Hitchcock tale, it's real. This guy was on the side of the road hitch hiking on a very dark night in the middle of a big snow storm. The night passed slowly and no cars went by. The storm was so strong he could see hardly a few feet ahead of him. Suddenly he saw a car slowly looming, ghostlike, out of the gloom. It slowly crept toward him and stopped. Reflexively, the guy gets into the car and closes the door, then realized that there was nobody behind the wheel. The car slowly starts moving again. The guy is terrified, too scared to think of jumping out and running.
The guy sees that the car is slowly approaching a sharp curve.
The guy starts to pray, begging for his life, sure the ghost car will go off the road and he will plunge to his death when, just before the curve, a hand appears thru the window and turns the steering wheel, guiding the car safely around the bend.
Paralyzed with terror, the guy watches the hand reappear every time they reach a curve. Finally, the guy gathers his wits and leaps from the car and runs to the nearest town.
Wet and in shock, he goes to a bar and, voice quavering, orders two shots of corn whiskey and tells everybody
about his horrible, supernatural experience.
A silence envelopes over everybody when they realize the guy is apparently sane and not drunk.
About half an hour later, two country boys in walk into the same bar. One says to the other, "Look Bubba, that's the idiot that rode in our car when we were pushing it."

BaDumBum...thanks, thank you, Ill be here all week.

Very funny.

But shouldn't it end with a "BaDumChing"? I would think you as a drummer would know this.

plabonte,

There are many possibilities. Watch Conan O'Brien. Sometimes it's better to skip the cymbals.

FYI concerning the "less than PC" post by plabonte...

In the world of percussion there is a cymbal known as a "China". It is an inverted crash or ride cymbal that has a very similar sound to the Chinese cymbals used for centuries. The tone is very short with very little resonance. More of a"pssshsst" sound than a "crash" sound that other crash cymbals emit. All of the major cymbal manufacturers, Zildjian, Sabian, Paiste, Ufip, have a version of this type of cymbal. They come in various sizes and thicknesses, each having its own tone. The tones also vary by manufacturer as different manufacturers use differnet metalurgy formulas to attain their signature sounds. For example, the Zildjian line of cymbals has a higher, cutting type tone than say the Paiste line which is a richer and deeper sound. I prefer the Sabian line which land somewhwere in the middle. The Chinas are mainly used an an accent cymbal becasue of its short burst of sound.

So in closing, his remark was not in the least "unPC" but that of a person who knows something about percussion instruments.

Damn, that made me sound like a freakin drummer...

What thios has to do with the original theme of this post is beyond me.

Can you tell Im bored...

I think plabonte may have been referring to the sound of the China as being "ching" when you, yourself stated that it makes more of a "pssshsst" sound.

BTW, I think my drummer uses a Zildjian. Is it on that clip I sent you?

It was supposed to be a Pun. Ching is a name from China much like Chan or Hwong. It is also used as a term to describe someone from China (that is the un PC part). Anyway seeing that the thread jack was about the sound that cymbols make I thought it would be a good pun to say that the China cymbol would make a "Ching" (Chinese name) sound. Even thought I knew in reality when you struck a china cymbol it does not in fact make a ching sound.

What I didn't know is that this line of duscussion would lead to a disertation on the China cymbol. But it was a very interesting and educational post nonetheless BeatDragon. Thanks.

I thought a high hat was that yellow, green, and red thing that rastafarians wore on their heads.
