One day a father of a very wealthy family took his son
on a trip to the country with the firm purpose of showing his son how the poor people live.

They spent a couple of days and nights on the farm of
what would be considered a very poor family.

On their return from their trip, the father asked his
son, "How was the trip?"

"It was great, Dad."

"Did you see how the poor people live?" the father asked.

"Oh yeah," said the son.

"So, tell me, what did you learn from the trip?" asked
the father.

The son answered, "I saw that we have one dog and they
had four. We have a pool that reaches to the middle
of our garden and they have a creek that has no end. We
have imported lanterns in our garden and they have the stars at night. Our patio reaches to the front yard and they have the whole horizon. We have a small piece of land to live on and they have fields that go beyond our sight. We have servants who serve us, but
they serve others. We buy our food, but they grow
theirs. We have walls around our property to protect us, they have friends to protect them."

The boy's father was speechless.

Then his son added, "Thanks, Dad ... for showing me how
poor we really are."

Too many times, we forget what we have and concentrate
on what we don't have. What is one's person's
worthless object is another's prize possession ...

It is all based on one's perspective. Makes you
wonder what would happen if we all gave thanks for all
the bounty we have instead of worrying about wanting
more.

Take joy and appreciate every single thing you have, especially your friends!

This post brings back many memories of my childhood. Growing up in the backwoods of eastern Kentucky. My father was a heavy equipment mechanic for a large coal company when I was growing up. He would get up at 5am go to work and come home at 5 in the evening. He made about 8 dollars an hour. He worked 5 days a week and on the weekend he would go to church. He was and still is at 82 years old an Old Regular Baptist Minister. When he would come home from work we would work in the fields until it was dark. We raised various vegetables that mother would can for the rest of the year. We raised much more than we would use. Much more. The food that we raised that we didn't use was given to other families that either didn't have the land or were not able physically or mentally of caring for a garden. If someone was sick or hurt and couldn't care for their fields that they had planted, the community at whole would work their fields until they were able to care for them their selves. The pay that we received for working in these other fields was a handshake, a firm thank you and the good feeling that you get when helping someone who needed it. I am more than likely one of a few 41 year olds that can remember plowing fields with horses. I kind of enjoyed it.

Yes, we didn't have a lot of money, but we were rich. A man or woman who measures their worth by what they have or have not is missing out on life. Don't get me wrong, I love money, but it's not everything in life. Thank God!!!

Yo Slim: So your saying if someone has twenty Bad Frogs and twenty Lone Wolfs and you have ten PAMs and ten VSGs that the person with the Bad Frogs and Lone Wolfs is better off then you, or maybe not. LOL JonR

Good point you have made here Slim, we all get caught up every now and then wondering what life would be like if we had "more." Better car, nicer house, more beautiful wife, better cigars, more money... Happiness in life doesn't come from things; because if you are not enough without them, you will never be enough with them. Happiness in life comes from the sincere appreciation of what you do have!

Compared to most of the patients that I pick up from the inner city, I live like a king.
I have a dry roof over my head with heat, food in my belly, clothes on my back, a 93 P/U truck that gets me around, decent health, and cigars out the wazoo. I am truly blessed.
