I’m watching the morning show on NBC right now and I just learned that Ozzy Osbourne is addicted to prescription medication. There’s a psychologist on right now blaming the new drugs that are too addictive and that doctors over medicate patients to addict them. They’re saying Ozzy is almost a victim in this circumstance because he needed the drugs to cope with his wife’s failing health.

Now I must ask: What makes Ozzy the victim and Rush the criminal?

Ozzy is taking these meds because they were prescribed to him legally. Rush on the other hand was buying his illegally from questionable sources.

First he's taking illegal drugs because he was abused as a child and now he's taking prescribed drugs because of his wifes illness and maybe sometime in the future he will take he will take a combination of both to get over the tragedy that he had his dog neutered. JonR

I think the liberal press wants to discredit Rush, to disrupt his career. And take the attention away from Ozzy as the Poster boy for the Democratic Party.

Quoate from Fox News:
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,105105,00.html

LOS ANGELES — Rocker Ozzy Osbourne (search) claims he was overprescribed a host of powerful anti-psychotic and tranquilizing drugs by a Beverly Hills physician, leading to a 42-pill-per-day habit that also accounted for his perplexing behavior on the hit TV series "The Osbournes."

So the difference here is that Ozzy knew were to go for one stop shopping, and Rush had to go to four different doctors? Is that the only difference? I’m not advocating leniency for Rush, I just hate the double standard here.

If there is a moral to this post it must be that Democrats have better drug connections than Republicans. LOL JonR

Difference?

Ozzy never claimed rightousness nor sought to judge others for their immoral behavior.

Also, I may be mistaken, but it sounds as though Ozzy committed no crime.

Ozzy has used more acid than Sears has put into Diehard batteries, and he's being compared to Rush? Quite funny!

Rush has a touch of hypocrisy on this issue, no doubt. I am glad the left side has finally discovered morality and value judgements. Let's send all hypocrites to jail.

But then, who would be left to post messages on this forum?

Besides me, I meant. ;o)

Well, LL I'm more Liberatarian and I believe drug laws should be loosened. Rush should be forced into treatment (that is if his voluntary treatment hasn't done the trick) and so should your average user rather than serve hard time.

Some of the folks on this thread had difficulty finding a difference in the 2 cases. Well, I think they are fairly obvious.

Rush was Right, Bill Clinton "is" a criminal for lying, under oath to a Grand Jury. By the same token, Rush is a criminal under the federal drug laws of this country. If you don't like it, write your congressmen and ask them to change the law.

Technically Rush isnt a criminal, yet. He and his physician are under investigation at this time.

Also, if FL is like CA, and you have no priors, and arent a dealer, you can get what's called Drug Diversion. If you successfully complete it, any arrest or charges are pulled from your records as if it never happened at all.

Yes, you are correct, SAM. Innocent until proven guilty... just like Michael Jackson and Scott peterson.

Of course Rush did admit to being a prescription drug addict and the evidence that he acquired those drugs illegally seems to be pretty stacked. I doubt he is "part" of some international drug ring other than as a buyer, but that's for the courts to decide.

You are also correct about California's somewhat lenient drug policy. I do honestly hope that Florida has something similar. As a man with chronic back pain and a history of utter misery due to my back trouble, I most seriously empathise with Rush. As I stated before, I don't want to see Rush in prison, he's a cigar smoker after all. = )

The problem here is simple. All of those that felt President Clinton was not given a fair shake by folks like Rush have been handed an Ace. If you're going to attack people for their immorality, then you had better live up to your own standards. Hopefully the liberals will take the high road on this.

I, myself happen to live in a glass house, so I try not to cast too many stones. I don't always succeed so I sometimes have to repair a broken window or 2.

Sketcha, we agree. I am also a libertarian (small L)and think the drug laws are stupid. My attempt at irony, as usual, didn't translate well into print. I like both Ozzy and Rush, even though they couldn't be more opposite. It would be a tragedy to put either of them in jail no matter what kind of stuff they ingested, as long as they only hurt themselves. I was just trying to point out that, when it comes to politics, hypocrisy runs deep on both sides. For example, some of our friends here might be in favor of legalizing drugs for everyone except Rush. In the old Transactioal Analysis psychology, it was called NIGYYSOB (Now I've Got you, You Son of a Bitch).

LL,

I couldn't agree more.

A liberaterian friend of mine who once dreamed of becoming a CIA agent has seen the light. He now feels it his quest to change the laws. Of course some drugs like crack have no redeaming qualities, while others like marijuana are relatively tame.

In his research he found that the illegalization of marijuana and hemp have roots that can be traced to William Randolph Hearst. It seems that he had major interest in the logging i.e. paper industry and lobbied congress in favor of his wood-based paper.

Though a fan of our system and free speech including the right to lobby, my friend recognizes how destructive the drug laws have been to our country. If marijuana were legalized and taxed, oh what revenue that would create putting marijuana growers and dealers out of business, not to mention the savings on enforcement. Obviously the DUI laws would continue to apply.
