Everyday I'm amazed at how we as a society have lost all common sense...

BENTON, La. — The Bossier Parish School Board will take a second look at its punishment policy for students caught with over-the-counter medications on campus.

In November, sophomore Amanda Stiles was expelled from Parkway High School (search) after Advil (search) was found in her purse. The school system has since been the target of a barrage of critical telephone calls and e-mails.

School board president Kenneth Wiggins said he hopes to have a report on the state law regarding student discipline by Friday.

"If there is leeway to provide us some discretion in how we implement the policy, we would take a serious look at that," Wiggins said. "We want to do the right thing. We shall do the right thing."

Current school system policy requires a mandatory one-year expulsion for possessing any type of drug. School board member Henry Burns said he's wanted the policy review since a similar expulsion several months ago.

"I've probably mentioned it a dozen times that we needed to take a look at it simply because the punishment needs to fit the crime," Burns said.

So when is having an Advil processing a drug?
I must have misread it.

We are going thru the same thing with our school system here, right now. Except our kids are being expelled for tardies. One was escorted off the school campus today by the local police. He is a hardened criminal at 15 for being late to class.
They have given out almost 1500 tardies since the beginning of school, in a school with barely 300 students. Do the math. They are saying that the kids are the problem. I told the school board that excessive things like that are not the kids, they are a problem with the school. Right now, the state Board of Education is investigating the school district.

Thanks, conservatives, for bringing us the concept of 'zero tolerance.' That's what this is all about.

You know, I find it odd that when I was in school, most of the trucks had rifles in the windows during hunting season, we all carried Buck knives on our belts and never had any problems. Fights were handled after school and the police were never involved.
Now, I realize that we were a small town and all, but still.
Now, kids are being expelled for having swiss army knives and having aspirin.
