Terrorism. I asked MDavis on another thread what the difference was. but in all Fairness one would have to know what the definition of what Terrorism really is??

So on this Thread instead of Thread Jacking I would like to ask the Many members here what their Interpretation of Terrorism means.. then maybe we can find the difference between the two and the Initial Question??
so many of us Disagree on everything else it will be interesting to see what everyone thinks Terrorism means!!!!

Terrorism: defined by the victim as the attempt to not only kill, but cause a generalized panic in a populace, leading to instability of everyday life.

Terrorism is the language of the victim, not the perpetrator. The perpetrator will always see their actions as legitimate acts of war. So, we call what al-Qaeda did on one day terrorism and the people of Iraq call what we do daily terrorism. Thus, it is not a fixed term, but rather only one of great rhetorical power: call it terrorism and you rally sympathy and support.

The term isn't very instructive or helpful, to my mind.

Terrorism: To use violence in the most horrific way to accomplish a desired goal. Now here's a question, how many of you know of a terrorist group called the " Werewolves "...who, where , and when. JonR

My definition is when an act of war is targeted against civilians. Civilians are often caught in the cross fires of war, but not the primary target. Terrorism attempts to further their beliefs by killing innocent civilians.

On a soapbox here, a troublesome trend in the media is to start calling terrorists, “militants.” This bothers me because it seems the media is afraid to call it like it is.

OK here goes.

Any act targeting innocents, designed to inflict the maximum psychological, physical and economic damage possible.

JonR,
Nazi groups like the werewolves were actual soldiers and were part of an actual ongoing war.
I'm not sure I see the comparison between them and what is going on today?
