There is seemingly no end of "religious" fakes who seem to involve themselves in politics ... from Pat Robertson on the right to Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton on the left ... shams, phonies, and crooks every one, IMO

a heathen?

heathen. One who adheres to the religion of a people or nation that does not acknowledge the God of Judaism, Christianity, or Islam.

i may be a buddist, or a Zoroastrian, or the only member of a secret society of one that believes cell phones are the devil's work.

may budda bless you.

or as the hindus say "one only essence the mighty declare in many ways."

Yo Rick: Heathen; noun.. an uncivilized or irreligious person. Rick you don't have to believe in God to go to heaven but if you don't when the dinner bell rings up there you have to sit at the little non-believers table. LOL JonR

Rick, is it that you do not believe in God, or do you truly believe there is no God? The belief that there is no God requires a lot of faith, since it is impossible to prove. If you have that kind of faith, you are a religious man.

when i was twelve years old and searching for a meaning, a god if you will, i had an epiphany, "A comprehension or perception of reality by means of a sudden intuitive realization" i realized the existance or non existance of a god didn't matter to me one way or the other so i stopped thinking about
the idea of a god.

i have never found any reason to rethink about it, except in debate with others and then only for the fun of it.

before you ask me where we go when we die, i ask you, where were you before you were born.

i had had some other epiphanies at that age, but they were mostly wet dreams.

Rick, I wish I could remember then name of the philosopher, but in your epiphany you hit on his response to someone who was fretting about eternity. He said "You came out of one unscathed."

Look how long it took us to get one Rickamaven. That much time will surely pass again.

Since it is impossible to prove something doesn't exist, then it must be possible to prove that it does exist.

Go for it.

JonR,
"Heathen" was a word used for my ancestors, as they were thought to be not religious, while in fact, the indians were quite religious.
So it is not an appropriate word to use, as it has been used out of context for so long, its true meaning has been marred by sarcasm.

out of the mouths of children come truths, unencumbered by political correctness and a need to belong to a herd.

pablo, smokin' the wacky weed is not a religious experience, so, again, step away from the bong!

Rick, I respect your beliefs. The challenge I'll present atheists when a discussion is brought up is simple: Prove he DOESN'T exist.....
Alas, we are all complex individuals with independant thoughts, wills, feelings, etc. and it is exactly that which makes life wonderful.

atheists say there is no god. that is not what i said.

i said the existence or non existence is of no interest to me. the idea of heaven or hell based on your test scores when you were alive, that is supposed to follow death is also of no interest to me.

As I said in a related thread, it is impossible to prove something doesn't exist. If you disagree with this, please prove there is not a tribe of invisible, microscopic pygmies living in your tennis shoes.

Conversely, it is possible to prove something does exist: simply present it.

God and Rick are walkin in the garden, God says, Rick, where is your brother Able? Rick's reply? Who am I? Am I my brother's keeper?

Cigarick, presented for your approval. My mother was going in for surgery 20 years ago on her intestines. She had inflammatory bowl disease. She was going to have a section of her intestines removed that was approximately 20 inches long. It was damaged, it was perforated, she was bleeding internally and would have died without the surgery. I was with her in the hospital. I prayed with her, over her, laid hands on her, she was unconscious but moaning. I tearfully begged God to heal her in the name of Jesus. The next morning, before her surgery, the doctors examined her. She was "healed", "completely". The Dr.'s had "no explanation". They had ex-rays before and after, no explanation... I present this miracle as proof that God does exist.

Cig, must be really gloomy/depressing to KNOW when the end comes, it is truly the end. But, I am not passing judgement....it is your opinion and I respect that.....but, pity it as well. I've been friends with atheists and religious (not just Christians) individuals, and I have found that the religious contingent is a much happier/content group.......here comes your "see? they worship only to comfort themselves and extinguish fear" argument.

Rick, sorry, your agnostic........IMO, agnostic=atheist. That is not a personal jab just an opinion.
