Russ, college counselors, in most cases, have no concrete knowledge of the curriculum they are presenting to students. At LSU, once you have completed the courses required to get into the College of Engineering, you are assigned to an Engineering Professor......these guys are much more in tune with how the system works. But, until then, Junior Division (which is the initial college you are put in as a freshman) basically sends young college students on wild goose chases.
My point, if your daughter is moving on to a four year ABET (this is required to eventually recieve a Professional Engineer certification) accredited university, there is a good chance she may find much better guidance (since her 2-year associates degree amounts to the credits LSU's Junior Division does, the worst should be over). When she arrives at school she should be issued a General Academic Catelog of some sorts. This is a concrete map of how to get her degree.....she needs to ALWAYS follow the catelog that is issued the academic year she enrolls. With or without a counselors input, this catelog is the Bible of the university's course requirements.
You have my e-mail if you want to discuss further.
