another good question, (I'm not trying to be difficult or a smart a**, really interested) what's the efficiency of the system? I mean, hydrogen is the best I've heard of so far, it works in current type engines, and the exhaust gas is steam. The problem is that it takes more energy to produce the electicity to electrolize the water into hydrogen and oxygen, than is saved by not using gasoline, and you have to consider the pollutants caused by the elecrical generation process. Wind is not abundant enough, and there will always be calm days, the sun doesn't always shine, and now we are talking coal, gas, or nuclear power. Compressed air is intrigueing, but I wonder about the actual economy, and efficiency of it. I hope they have actually found something workable.

The primary drawback I see is the range is only about 120 mi. and the refill time with the onboard compressor is four hours. This may be subject to improvement. The question is, will the Ralph Naders of the country allow the safety compromises that will certainly be necessary to accomodate the 700 Kg weight? There are many small efficient vehicles you see in Europe that you will never see in the States, because they cannot pass emmissions tests, (not an issue here) or crash safety standards. The $10,000 price tag is attractive, and if the Government will allow exceptions to some of the standards in exchange for the use of super-efficient technology, I think it could work.

maybe the best idea would be to sacrifice a little of the efficiency and put a small gas powered compressor onboard to allow apartment dwellers to refill the tanks, at least until air stations begin springing up. Then if you saw you were beginning to run low on air, you could start the compressor on the fly, run it for ten or fifteen minutes, and refill as you go! probably run for days on two gallons of gas!

When I was runnin on my Harley.. I liked to log at least 400 mi a day.. 400-600 was a good day and then the Campground thing with a cabin.. I would set my sites by the KOA roadmap booklet... sometimes I would even just pull off the highway and down into some wooded area and set up camp... I couldn't get used to a 120 mi/4 hr trip that wouldn't even get me to Chicago an back in one weekend... Scratch that one, I'll stick to my 131 cu in" Bagger Camper Special Harley Trike with a high end cam....

thats about what I was thinking. If you live in an apartment complex, where would you plug it in at? If you could refill the tanks on the fly, so to speak, you could extend the range!

I keep my own compressor in the Garage.. and it still costs me 30 bucks to fill the truck..

the old bike got 200 miles on 6 bucks... and everytime I had to stetch and pea...
