Lots of good ones here, I'll see if I can rattle off a few:
The Eiger Sanction- Clint Eastwood
Eldorado- John Wayne
They Live- Rowdy Roddy Piper
The Bedford Incident- Richard Widmark, Sydney Poitier, and Wally Cox
Slingblade
I can't think of the name of the one that had Eastwood, Garner, Donald Sutherland, and Tommy Lee Jones in it, but it was great!
In Harms Way
Midway
Tora Tora Tora
Pearl Harbor- I don't care about the love story in it, the facts were accurate, and the effects were awsome!
Heavens Gate-the uncut version

The Man Who Would Be King. 1975

Sean Connery and Michael Caine who play freemasons

This film could easily have been classified under the adventure category but for the simply superb and witty dialogue between the two main characters (played by Sean Connery and Michael Caine). This film version does Rudyard Kipling proud in its portrayal of two wily British soldiers who are intent on travelling to one of the most inhospitable places on earth in order to claim a kingdom for themselves.

You guys are naming a lot of "classics", but that is ok by me as most of the favorites on my list are film noir, hard boiled thrillers such as:
Double Indemnity
The Big Sleep
The Killing
The Third Man
Maltese Falcon

I could go on and on, but you should get the drift!

Charlie

PS A modern version of the above would be Mel Gibson in Payback!

charlie, you're making me think of all the Dashiell Hammet films

The glass Key
The thin man

It all depends on your definition of classic. Let's say it's not a classic if it's not recognized by the majority, whether or not film buffs think it is one.

Another favorite:

The Manchurian Candidate

Blade Runner-the original theater cut with the Harrison Ford monologue
Not necessarily in order:
Pulp Fiction
Bringing Out The Dead-Nick Cage as a NY paramedic (if I wasn't working as one in Cleveland, I would have never believed any of it)
Red Rock West
That's all I can think of right now.

Favorite movie of all time:
Blue Velvet. What will really make it creepy for you is when you see a picture of David Lynch. Suit, tie, nice haircut, very conservative.

Road Warrior
Unforgiven
Usual Suspects
Hardware (what the future will really look like)
Coup de Torchon (mostly because it came from a kick ass book)
Star Trek II
Jaws
Office Space (the only comedy that I can watch over and over again)

I would have to say my favorite non-blockbuster movie would be "Groundhog Day"

A small movie I really like that nobody seems to have seen is "Defending Your Life" w/ Albert Brooks and Meryl Streep.

It's so much easer for me to consider a favorite in a certain catagory than an all around favorite.

I still have a deep love for the Indiana Jones Trilogy for pure excitement and entertainment.

Because I love classical music, Amadaeus will always my artsy favorite.

In Sci-Fi, I still consider Return of the Jedi my favorite.

Sound of Music was my chldhood favorite and the best musical ever.

Schindler's List was the most deeply thoughy provoking film for me ever and the best historical film.

On the other side of provokation, Insatiable with Marilyn Chambers is my porn classic favorite. A close second is some of the old Russ Meyer stuff, a nice combo of funny and titilating.

Finally in other sports, I just loved Sea Biscuit this year and sincerely hope its the Oscar Darkhorse.
