All the recent talk about movies got me wondering...

Do you prefer seeing all of your TV screen and part of the movie?

Or all of the movie and black bars at the top and bottom of your TV screen?

we just installed a hdtv. i can switch to full screen or wide screen on some of the channells that are not hd and we have. 6 of one half dozen of the other.

i can tell you that watching hdtv, we were overwhelmed by the quality of the picture. we spent an hour watching fish swim near a coral reef and i nominate that hour as the best hour we've spent watching anything, dvd, vcr, or whatever. just walking into the room and glancing at the picture stops me cold.

we bought a sony flat screen 36" instead of the sony wide screen because the wide screen hdtv programs are the same size as the wide screen sony, but we have the option of watching none hd programs on a large picture. the wide screen tv will show none hd or wide screen tv with bars on the side. there is a device to stretch the picture, but of course everyone will look fat.

wide screen sony $2500. flat screen sony $1500.

you need a satellite to lock in the picture.

Letterbox is the only way to go.

As for: I paid for the whole TV so I like to use the Whole thing. LMAO..TinMan

I figure that I paid for the movie so I want to see it all. In full screen you really do miss a lot of the actual film.

for me it depends on the movie, my mood, and what size tv. I had (until my divorce) a 62" Sony, (non-HDTV) and if something was letterboxed, I didn't care, because the picture was still quite large. If I'm watching on a 19" portable, I want the picture as big as I can get because of my eyesight!
