I can see all you running to find your Styx cd’s now.

BTW what do you think this song is saying anyway.
Read the first two lines of the last two stanzas and state what you think!

I'm sailing away, set an open course for the virgin sea
I've got to be free, free to face the life that's ahead of me
On board, I'm the captain, so climb aboard
We'll search for tomorrow on every shore
And I'll try, oh Lord, I'll try to carry on

I look to the sea, reflections in the waves spark my memory
Some happy, some sad
I think of childhood friends and the dreams we had
We live happily forever, so the story goes
But somehow we missed out on that pot of gold
But we'll try best that we can to carry on

A gathering of angels appeared above my head
They sang to me this song of hope, and this is what they said
They said come sail away, come sail away
Come sail away with me
Come sail away, come sail away
Come sail away with me

I thought that they were angels, but to my surprise
They climbed aboard their starship and headed for the skies
Singing come sail away, come sail away
Come sail away with me
Come sail away, come sail away
Come sail away with me

(Are angels really aliens?)

Later
(Just deep thought in the night)

Kevin

Probably the same thing Crosby, Still and Nash were singing about in "Wooden Ships," and the same thing Jefferson Starship was singing about in whatever song it was which started out, "Have you seen the stars tonight?"

That being: "Whoa, dude--I think I smoked too much again. Let's jam!"

I don’t know about smoking too much, but I’ve definitely drank too much tonight……

They were Heavy Metal.......then they smoked, put the microphones up to their mouths.....and fruity music came out.

They smoked the good stuff.

"closer to home" by grand funk railroad?

Everybody, listen to me,
And return me, my ship.
I’m your captain, I’m your captain,
Although I’m feeling mighty sick.

I’ve been lost now, days uncounted,
And it’s months since I’ve seen home.
Can you hear me, can you hear me,
Or am I all alone.

If you return me, to my home port,
I will kiss you mother earth.
Take me back now, take me back now,
To the port of my birth.

Am I in my cabin dreaming, or are you really scheming,
To take my ship away from me?

You’d better think about it, I just can’t live without it.
So, please don’t take my ship from me.
Yeah, yeah, yeah ...

I can feel the hand, of a stranger,
And it’s tightening, around my throat.
Heaven help me, heaven help me,
Take this stranger from my boat.

I’m your captain, I’m your captain,
Although I’m feeling mighty sick.
Everybody, listen to me,
And return me, my ship.

I’m your captain, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
I’m your captain, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
I’m your captain, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
I’m your captain, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

I’m getting closer to my home ...
I’m getting closer to my home ...
I’m getting closer to my home ...
I’m getting closer to my home ...
Ohhhh ...

I’m getting closer to my home ...
I’m getting closer to my home ...
I’m getting closer to my home ...
I’m getting closer to my home ...

If anyone gets a chance - try to find the version of Come Sail Away, sung by Cartman of South Park. Absolutely hilarious.

Cavallo, I'm going to show my age. The song title is "I'm your Captain" and it is from the Closer To Home album released in June, 1970. The Grand Funk album Caught In The Act featured the modified lyrics of "I'm getting closer to my world".

JonR: enjoy the music! that's a good one, all right!

avb: thanks for the info -- i'd just copied/pasted the lyrics from some online lyrics site. i THOUGHT that "world" was right! "home" just isn't what i remember the dude singing all those years on the radio, anyway. :)

btw, i'm a music junkie. i was born in 1965, and i think i got a hand-me-down transister (AM, baby!) radio when i was six, and that thing stayed attached to me. lol grew up to d.j. a college radio show for six years, and now thanks to the magic of online music virtually anyone can d.j. their own show.

thanks for reminding me of these great tunes, gentlemen!
