Chip, Fidel is a filthy lying despot & his comment is yet another lie. Bush CAN too debate a 9th grader & I think he would probably win.

may i point out

America's economy hangs by a thread while Cuba - after four decades under a U.S. economic
blockade - continues to offer free health care and boasts an infant mortality rate lower than its
northern neighbor, President Fidel Castro asserted early Saturday.

The communist-run island has no illiteracy, a lower infant mortality rate than the United States,
lower student-teacher ratios and higher levels of educational achievement, he said

this is and was my country before you were born.

perhaps you should read and understand things a little better. i never make nasty cracks about my country.

my nasty cracks are about the administration running this country at the moment.

you need to practice your understanding skills, such as you have, and stop telling me where i should live.

you don't understand page one of communism. you just read that word one day and decided it was a bad word so you use it whenever you are a loss for words, which you are most of the time.

guys, i rarely say anything personally nasty to anyone. i disagree with what they say frequently, but since JonR never says anything to disagree with, i am forced to touch nastiness a little bit.

JonR you are a conservative. so there.

Yo Rick: Practice your reading skills. I didn't tell you to move to Cuba, I asked you why you don't. I looked up communism in the dictionary and it said see liberalism. I'm glad you agree with everything I say it will help boost your IQ. And yes I am a Conservative and proud of it. JonR

yeah, i would really like to see a lot less of the personal attacks. it lowers the person saying them, and it cheapens their message. if all you have to defend your beliefs with is a shot at anyone who disagrees with them, that leads me to think you don't have much ground to really stand on. :/

i'll tell you upfront, at the age of 38 i am actively looking for candidates to support and a party that represents what i believe to be important. i'm no longer about swallowing ANY party line whole -- right wing, left wing or the big body between them that needs both wings to make it fly.

i truly appreciate posts about politics that say a little something about the substance of your beliefs than the equivalent of "love it or leave it" or "you're a big fat doodie head!"

patriotism doesn't just come in one flavor.

and no, this is not meant to target one "side" or the other. liberals, conservatives and those in-between have been guilty of this. i'm sure i have been, and i'm making an effort NOT to just add more salt to the sea.

Rick,
I've gotta ask:
Whose statistics are those????

I've got several friends who have been to Cuba.
They loved it. Nice Island.
But Third World in most every aspect.

The "rich" folks there have nothing on our proud "poor" in terms of amenities.

Castro speaks, Rick listens.

That speaks volumes to where your loyalty is. Regardless of where and when you were born.

Any sports fan has heard the stories of the Cuban defectors who join MLB to play ball. They grew up in conditions that would make you cry.

Take away every modern conveniece you could think of except for text books, and see what would happen to our literacy rate.

There are many countries that could put us to shame in certain categories.
Cuba is not one of them...

i assume you have medicl insurance.

30% of americans have none.

the grocery strike in calif is not about wages, it is to protect the workers from losing their medical benifits. they have been out almost 4 months without pay and if they lose, what group will be next to lose medical benifits. maybe you?

I pay my own.
It sucks, but you don't see me going on strike to bite the hand that feeds me.

At what point in our nations history did we determine that grocery clerks have a "right" to fully paid medical benefits? They need ACCESS to medical insurance through their full-time employer.

Supply and demand.
Let them quit and that will force the stores to pay what is fair.

And what does this have to do with Cuba?
Are you saying that because Cubans get government funded health care that their heathcare is superior to ours????
You can not possibly be that "naive".
Note: "naive" is in quotations because I wanted to say "stupid", but I don't want to appear as if I'm calling you names (even though it is not a direct accusation, but rather a supposition.

"Are you saying that because Cubans get government funded health care that their heathcare is superior to ours????" are you asking 4 questions?

are you putting words in my mouth? i never said that. i said they have health care.

we are the only industrialized nation that does not have health care for all it's citizens.

Rick,
If you didn't mean to imply that Cuba's healthcare was superior to ours, then why did you interject it into an otherwise unrelated thread?

My post was based on that assumption.
