I've previously been a vocal advocate for a cigar ratings system here at cigarbid, but I have since changed my view on the matter completely. I think it would actually be detrimental to the consumer if we had our own cigar ratings here. Why? Well for one, it caters to the lazy, who, instead of doing research on their own (like checking the CigAf or Smoke websites, forums or the like), would have easy and instant access to the information about the cigars on auction, thus causing more people to bid on the cigars, thus eliminating the good deals on any sticks worth placing in your mouth. Although this is great for cigarbid and capitalism in general, it will soon make cigarbid a place for the ignorant and lazy. I'm not advocating destroying cigarbid by giving them no profit whatsoever (because that would destroy the site as well), but let's be thankful for the overbidders for keeping cigarbid in business, but let's not help them drive up prices on anything worthwhile. In short, if you want info on a cigar, place a "Review Request" in the forums and be somewhat patient. If you must know about a cigar right away, find other means, or visit your local tobacconist for info. Now, since writing this, I think I might have just paved the way for progress of getting that cigar ratings system up and running. I apologize for that and any possible incoherence in my long, long message, it's 3:20am here and I must go to sleep now... JUST SAY NO TO CIGAR RATINGS AT CIGARBID.

I must respectfully completely disagree with heg on this one, some reasons why are on my other post under cigar ratings, and I really don't think it will make that great of difference. It would be a benifit to new cigar smokers who don't want to buy 20 boxes to find a few cigars they like. And as I said, taste is very subjective, and we will often have conflicting opinions on cigars rated. PLUS, just maybe if a cigar is really bad, and all of us say so, this would probably even help CI as they won't bother to offer the cigar anymore. The best for both the consumer and the seller is having an outstanding product, both are winners then. Eventually all these closeouts and crappy cigars made during the cigar boom will sell out anyway. What is left then is a very competitive cigar market, and cigar makers having to make superior products.

Amen, Aberdeen. I think most of us usually go on the suggestions of friends or the many cigar magazines, etc... Some of us may like a strong cigar and some of us may like a flavored (Acid) or a mild cigar... so the more input the better off we all are!

I also must agree with aberdeen. I check a variety sources if I'm looking to try something new, however it would be nice to have feedback from fellow posters here as well. It just adds more to the mix:)

And I thought all cigar smokers were intelligent. The only thing I have to add to this comedic post is….. Let this be a lesson to all that post after 3am. Lack of sleep has a detrimental effect on the amount of common sense that flows through the pen. The rest of you guys covered the issue pretty well.
