This type of commercialization trivializes the ultimate sacrifice. What are they going to sell next-- a "crown of thorns" bracelet?

PS: What's this about Bohemian Samplers being "crappy & expensive"? I seem to have received some of those beauts from an anonymous botl. Hope he enjoyed my gift...

sorry, but i gotta rant for a minute -- this just makes me feel a little sick. part of why it sickens me is that

i still want to see the movie (though i'm a bit more nervous each day about financially supporting this venture, i do want to see it for myself and not rely on anyone else's opinions -- pro or con), but this to me is the kind of thing i imagine christ would be pissed off about, a' la kicking the merchants and money changers out of the temple (basically for taking the sacred and turning it into a money-making venture).

i know this is far from the first "commercialized jesus" item to go up for sale, and that everything from cutesy bible covers to 14kt gold cross necklaces have been on sale for years. but for some reason it just sickens me a little bit more than even, say, a $40 My Cuddly Jesus doll (though not much more).

i know there are those who say that christian-oriented mugs, t-shirts, jewelry, etc. is "a good witnessing tool." yeah. maybe. however, as someone whose known a lot of people who decorate themselves (and their offices, lockers, cars, etc.) with christian "accessories," it seems to me that -- for many -- it's just another way to be Cooler Than Thou.

maybe i'm cynical, but christianity managed to spread throughout the world in a time of no mass communication without believers wearing fashion "jesus nails" over their "I'm Not Perfect -- Just Forgiven!" t-shirts. : P

i'm headed back to bed now.

Damn son!

I love it when young people have a very valid opinion. It gives me hope for this worlds future.

Capital LMAO! Great site with great insight! LOL! The only thing that might bother me a little is that someone has way too much time to spend setting up a site like that, but I love it.

I don't necessarily approve of the commercialization. The one arguement that I respect was all about image. People have lived with the icon of the cross for so long, tamed it down to tiny gold trinkets given to little girls at their confirmations, that they have forgotten the horrible and raw act of nailing a human to a cross as execution. These nails are a new and shocking representation of this act. Of course you should be able to find them in your local Wal-mart any day now..

Hell, they have been at the "hardware store near you" for years but nobody had the bright idea to call them "Jesus Nails" before.

People will buy anything. It just amazes me.

Hey you may have something there, I gotta get me some crazy glue, and some "genuine distressed nails" (16p from my neighbors fence) with real oxidation (rust) and impact scars (hammered heads) I pull about 20-30 of those, sell them on e-bay for $19.95 a pop (free shipping of course) I might just have enough to get me a decent box o' smokes!
