Just curious what you hockey fans think about that thug Bertuzzi. Obviously I'm not too happy about his actions. I've been thinking about a proper punsishment and my first instinct is to say he should be suspended for at least one year. With a star like Bertuzzi, I doubt it will happen. How long do you think his suspension should be?

Never did like him. Not as dirty as Probert was but pretty damn close for a skilled player. I think the least should be out the remainder of the year including playoffs.

Goons like that will always exist in the sport. Look at Probert, Domi, McSorely, etc...

An eye for an eye!

At the very least he should be out for the remainder of the season including post-season.

A monetary fine is something to consider as well.

He will probably get off easy as star players, celebrities always get preferential treatment.

I'm not a big hockey fan but think the punishment should fit the stupidity. He should be out at least as long as the injured player (Steve Moore). If Moore doesn't make a full recovery and come back to play neither should Bertuzzi. Jail time wouldn't be a bad thing either.

Nothing wrong with a little extra curricular activity on the ice. If they had been punching each other face to face and one of them hit his head and left on a stretcher, I'd say that's just part of the game. Sucker punching someone from behind is just chicken
$h!t .

I am a closet-Hockey fan. I like a few other sports better, but recently, I have really been following what has been happening on the ice around the league.

Bertuzzi should be fined, suspended for remainder of season, and if Moore doesn't recover(broken neck)....no playoffs for Bertuzzi. That is...if they make the playoffs without him.

I saw numerous re-caps of the hit that Moore put on Marcus Naslund, that lead Bertuzzi to do this.....but this was cheap and dirty, and didn't fit the crime.

The crazy thing about all of this to me was that I watched the previous match-up on television between Canucks and Avalanche. A great, high-scoring game....with only a few fights. I couldn't tell that something like that was brewing for their next match-up. Wow

Lemme finish my Hockey rant by saying that Bassdude's team is on route to their 26th consecutive playoff appearance. I aint bettin against that defense.

Forsberg couldn't hold a match to Sakic

Forsberg has more talent in his pinky than Sakic does in his whole body

I predict the blues will make it to the Playoffs, the veterans will step up and they'll have a solid performance in the 1st round and then lose (probably to Dallas) in the 2nd round.

If Dallas plays in the playoffs the way that have in the last 10 games they win the cup. ....umm....i mean except for last nights game..... : )

Couldn't have happened to a better team.

The very same team, the Colorado Avalanche used to gloat, sneer and laugh at the antics of their own teammate Claude Lemieux. That **** was the nastiest cheapshot player to strap on a set of skates EVER! They used to revel in the fact that they had the nastiest player on their team and used him like a trailer park with a pit bull!

The best thing that ever happened to that "turtle" was when Vladdy Konstantinov checked him so hard he went flying and did a complete flip landing on his head!

I do feel sorry for Steve Moore because he's new to them and wasn't there when Claude was, but still it couldn't have happened to a better team. Reaping and sowing. It's a tough game, and sometimes it comes home to roost.

penzt8 said it best.
That was an uncalled for cheap shot and he should pay.
It is a shame that he will get off so easily, but I hope he doesn't.
A long suspension and jail time would do him good, with his pay going to a charity of Steve Moore's choice.

I agree that Claude was a dirty player but Probert was worse. I was at a game where he was left in the offensive zone all alone. He skated up to the goalie punched him in the face and skated away. Of course Ewing beat his azz on the next shift.

i am from minnesota so have had a 7 game series with bertuzzi last year in semifinal of western conf. i was shocked to learn these two teams played one game between the first game and the game where bertuzzi pulled this crap. i feel that anybody that big that jumps somebody like that needs to delt with in the legal system. this is not part of hockey, hockey whould be a face to face fight.

alsant, I agree that probert was a very skilled fighter and he could play. He was also a very dirty player and liked to break the law. Remember when he could not cross the border? I was happy to be at a game where he was knocked out in a fight by Ewing.

I did not say he was perfict , can`t win them all! he was a wild guy till he got to chicago then he settled down on the partying . he also was the radio broadcaster in chicago for the hawks and I must say he was very good ,then he fell off the wagon and had to go back into rehab , have not heard about him in about a year.

Must say if you take fighting out of hockey it won`t be the same, but sometimes it does go too far.

I say suspend him for this season and next, along with a good-sized fine. From what I saw on the video, it was a total cheapshot. As bad as, if not worse than a cross check. Moore never saw it coming. It would have been different if there had been some warning of the hit about to happen.

Todd Bertuzzi of the Vancouver Canucks was suspended for the rest of the regular season and the playoffs by the NHL on Thursday for attacking Colorado's Steve Moore.

In addition, Bertuzzi's eligibility for next season will be determined by NHL commissioner Gary Bettman before the start of training camp.

The Canucks were also fined $250,000.

"We want to make clear that this type of conduct will not be tolerated in the NHL," league vice president Colin Campbell said in a statement.

Bertuzzi sat out Wednesday's tie with Minnesota and will miss the final 12 games of the regular season, forfeiting at least $500,000. The suspension will amount to a minimum of 17 games if the Canucks make the playoffs and are swept in a first-round series.

I hope the only way they let him play next season is if Moore is 100%. I also hope Dallas plays Vancouver in round one....

Ethan or anyone, why is it that fighting is allowed in hockey, but no other sport?

Sure fights break out, but they are usually quickly broken up. In hockey the refs let them duke it out for quite some time.

The real reason is because they are on ice. It's harder to plant and do as much damage on skates. I think a second reason has evolved also - hockey players (despite the stigma) are actually pretty well mannered and most of them fight 'fair' - sometimes they'll scrap along the boards, one guy will throw a cheap elbow or stick and the other guy loses it and attacks him - then the refs jump in, but when two guys have a score to settle, the usually don't hide it - the refs know it's coming - the guys square off, often times a guy w/ a visor will remove his helmet and they just go fist to fist - it's pretty civilized (much more now than in the past)

The crazy thing is after the game, the two who duked it out will go out and have drinks together.
I know this for a fact cause I had friends on a minor league team and would go drinking with both teams after the game. Listening to them laugh about who got the better end of a fight.

Do hockey players have a brain, heheheeee???

I would hope that the NHL will not allow Bertuzzi to return until Steve Moore is also able to play.

I'll be very surprised if Bertuzzi isn't ultimately charged with criminal battery. This wasn't a fight; but, rather, a brutal attack from the rear.

Bertuzzi's apology was very hollow. He knew exactly what he was doing during the attack. No, I don't think Bertuzzi wanted Moore to suffer the injuries he suffered, but his actions caused the injuries.

All of Bertuzzi's pay during his suspension should be awarded to Moore.
