blood:
whatever does or doesn't become of this thread, you've introduced me to a) a new way of thinking about bosnia/serbia and b) a curiosity about the same.
at the time when this was "hot" i had a million other things going on in my life -- a tumultuous time of upheaval in my own life, so i never did "get" what was going on over there. i saw in mpls. a photo exhibit about it, and that's as close to catching up with the "news" that i got. to this day, i know that there were two sides, concentration camps, rapes and a lot of ugliness -- and i'm STILL not sure which side is which, who were the "good" and "bad" guys, etc.
time to do some learning i suppose.
also, i appreciate your analogy of the US and mexico -- i'm sure that, too, will make more sense to me as i head off to learn about the serb/bos situation. just wanted to say that it's an excellent teaching tool, to use an analogy "close to home" to make sense of something far away and distant. i'll be looking into this.
