Another Attack Prevented – Another Miracle
00:30 Apr 16, '04 / 25 Nisan 5764

(IsraelNN.com) Once again, accurate intelligence information led to the apprehension of a terrorist and the prevention of a major terror attack.

The 28-year-old Arab female, a mother of six, was apprehended on Thursday evening at a military checkpoint to the Shomron community of Ariel. She was carrying a case containing a 25 kilogram bomb, not 15kg as was reported earlier. The female is a resident of the village of Luban el-Sharqiya, located about 20 kilometers (12 miles) from where she was apprehended. She is reportedly affiliated with the al-Aqsa Brigade of Yasser Arafat’s Fatah organization. Hamas also claimed credit for dispatching her.

According to information released earlier tonight, the bomb was to be placed at an unspecified location, possibly inside pre-1967 Green Line Israel, and detonated by a remote device, apparently a cellular telephone.

The terrorist was apprehended by IDF reservists manning the checkpoint, who were alerted to be on the lookout for a female carrying a bomb on her body or in a case.

I'm not a military genius, but I'm going to take a shot at this. Sharing borders with someone definitely helps in gathering intelligence on that country. You launch your helicopter/plane from your own airstrip, you fly over an outpost that doesn’t have any air defense, and you watch what goes on. You see something suspicious, you get on the radio to get permission and you launch a missile.

We on the other hand, have to ship all of our equipment over seas, spend billions to use foreign airfields, spend millions to maintain our equipment and personal over seas and lastly, we have to communicate with leaders 3000+ miles away. Also, we have to deal with public opinion, because anytime we launch an attack, half of America will scream that we are killers.

Lastly… to answer this exact post, if the ACLU and you yourself Rick don’t mind armed checkpoints between your house and your work… then I think we might be able to pull this off as well.

The answer lies in the begining paragraph:"Accurate intelligence information". Also, Israel doesn't suffer from competing agencies, the jealousy and the pettiness involved within them. X

Some consider Isreal's intel the best in the world but remember that many people slip through their net and do considerable damage on a consistant basis.

The reason we can't do this is because we have become sooo politcally correct and afraid of lawsuits or offending everybody that our police force, FBI, CIA, and other intelligence communities have shackles on them. Is this a good thing? NO. But at the same time I don't know if I would like to live in a world in which I had to go through checkpoints and be searched everytime I wanted to go somewhere. I also like the fact that we are human enough that we care about other people more than we care about ourselves. Its a delicate balance.
On another note...I have been reading these boards for a couple of months now, and though I have only recently started posting I have to ask: are you changing teams Rick? Lately your posts have been more and more leaning to the right. If so come on in the water is fine :)

The Israelis can do this because they profile everybody, racially and otherwise.

It has pretty much been answered but if you feel the Patriot Act infringed upon your rights wanna exchange them for the rights over there?

If we shot first and worried later the whole world would be up in arms and all you lefties would cry for years.

That's great they were able to do that. But you don't think we don't stop incidents because you never hear about them, do you? I can't imagine anyone would believe that.
If you do let me tell you, you're wrong.

A couple comments:

First, when was the last time a suicide bomber attacked a target in the US? The events of 9/11 don't count since the deadly weapons these guys were carrying were box cutters. Up until that time, half the people that flew had something in their possession that is now bannned. I've been on international flight from Japan and Korea in the past where passengers were carrying every kind of martial arts weapon imaginable in their carry on luggage.

Second, I work on a military intstallation. I go through routine security screening/ID checks. It ain't a big deal. More and more companies are requiring employees to wear company issue ID badges at work.

Third, the US has what, 15,000 miles of border to patrol and protect. I think there's a chance someone could slip through.

I think the answer Rick was looking for was that Bush is incompetent and has failed the war on terror. Interesting that’s not the answer which has been provided…

I was all excited when I first saw RICKAMAVEN's post. I thought he was referring to the (fairly) immediate assination of the latest proclaimed leader of Hamas. I agree that it's logistics of a much larger border to patrol AND it's the PC mindset of this country that stops us from taking stronger measures. That's both here and abroad. I don't think we could have put together any amount of support from the people of this country to bomb Afghanistan back to the Stone Age prior to 9/11. If we handled it like Israel, bin Laden would have had a missle enema one day after he bombed the WTC in '93. Every "religous" leader who proclaims a fatwa against us would have Hell fire from above before the ink was dry.

I'm shuttin' up now and smoking one of my new cigars fresh off the UPS Truck.

i hope i didn't disappoint you. you may want to let those cigars settle down a little. sometimes they get motion sickness and it is contagious.

actually afghanistan was in the stone age before we started bombing their caves.

your quotes around religious leaders is perfect. "religious leaders" do not preach murder of the innocent. these people that send others, including women and children, out to fulfill their doctrine, are animals. if foxes are killing your chicken, better to kill them before more chickens are destroyed.

word of caution!! make sure you know they are foxes, and not saudis.

Good reply, RICKAMAVEN. I always enjoy your opinions, even if I don't always share them. I'm sure if we could ever have a smoke together we'd have some good debate and some good laughs, too.
