I'm not a military genius, but I'm going to take a shot at this. Sharing borders with someone definitely helps in gathering intelligence on that country. You launch your helicopter/plane from your own airstrip, you fly over an outpost that doesn’t have any air defense, and you watch what goes on. You see something suspicious, you get on the radio to get permission and you launch a missile.
We on the other hand, have to ship all of our equipment over seas, spend billions to use foreign airfields, spend millions to maintain our equipment and personal over seas and lastly, we have to communicate with leaders 3000+ miles away. Also, we have to deal with public opinion, because anytime we launch an attack, half of America will scream that we are killers.
Lastly… to answer this exact post, if the ACLU and you yourself Rick don’t mind armed checkpoints between your house and your work… then I think we might be able to pull this off as well.
