Hi all. I'm not a newbie to cigars but I am a newbie to posting and these forums. I need to send some cigars to my dad. Not a whole lot, maybe about 6-8 to tide him over until I visit again in a few weeks. What is a good, safe, inexpensive way to do it?

Thanks,
Iccarrow

smoke them and send him the ashes.

i use mailing tubes that you can buy at any office depot. get a size that will hold three or four cigars based on the diameter, and cut it to be an inch or so longer then the cigars. seal the bottom with some wide tape or a lot of narrow tape, shove in a paper towel, then the cigars, and then another paper towel.

that will keep the cigars from bouncing around and no can look into the end to see what you are mailing.

send it first class, regular old fashioned mail. it will get there almost as fast as priority which start at $3.85. don't insure it,. you never be able to collect from the post office.

When you get a shipment from CBID, save some of those smiley face boxes, packing peanuts, and ziplock bags. Ship the cigars in those.

If you dont have any handy, the USPS will give you certain boxes/packing materials to ship the cigars in. I dont think you get any packing peanuts. Just put the smokes in a ziplock bag and throw some newspaper in there.

Thanks for the replies. I am going to try the tube idea because it sounds like a cooler way to send them.
I will, however, probably put them in a smiley face bag in the tube.

everyone sends them with a small box - like what you get w/ cbid/CI. peanuts or bubble wrap works fine. If you want them to stay humid, try a humi pouch, but most people expect to have to sit their cigars in a humidor for at least a couple days (I wait over a week) before smoking. Oh, and if they are expensive cigars than document them and then insure them - I actually got my insurance money from my lost boxpass from the USPS thanks to the work of Homebrew. Welcome and now that you know how to ship cigars - go to the trades board!

put 'em in a zip-lock bag that you wrap around them and tape down so that they don't "rattle" around loose in it ... put that zip lock inside another zip lock bag and add a bit of dampened paper towel ... put those in a box or tube and those puppies will arrive in pristine condition ...

Another way is USPS Priority Mail. The (sturdy) boxes are free from the USPS and they handle several cigars very nicely. Any time friends are in 'need' I use this method, never had a problem with it.
