This editorial in a UMASS campus paper made my blood boil. Pat Tillman and all of our other hero gave their lives to defend our freedom. Obviously part of our freedom is to express ignorant opinions from the safety of a college campus!

I was born and raised in New England. Why is it that I don't share the liberal points of view coming from that area?

My dad says it's common sense. hehehe :-)

Freedom of Speech, we have it, lots of the countries these "college" students support do not allow such a thing! Makes no sense to be a liberal, but we have lots of them and they make lots of noise.

I should have resisted reading the story itself and settled for reading the recap you guys posted ...

Let me go on record as saying that "graduate student Rene Gonzalez" is a *&^%ing idiot an totally undeserving the freedoms that he could never hope to win for himself and are being accorded to him by men far better than himself ... such as Pat Tillman

The way I see it is too many people out there aren't willing to put their lives on the line for the good of our nation (military, law enforcement, firefighting) and thus can't understand why anyone else would want to. I guess it's easier to make fun of things and people you don't understand.

I'm just glad there are those of us out there who DO accept dangerous jobs like this to keep our fine nation going.

And MACS(SW), I know I'm opening myself up to yet another attempted attack here, but I think your dad is right on, COMMON SENSE!!!

Yeah, when I skimmed the story of this on CNN.com, I didn't catch what he actually said. At that point I figured it was the old argument of how we only make heros after they die or an opinion that Tillman wasn't any more of a hero than the others that died.

When I read the ESPN story more closely and saw what the guy said....thank God for free speech, but stupidity should be answered with a$$whippings. Opinions on the war and even toward Tillman would be one thing...the terrible disrespect this guy showed would be laughable if it wasn't so enraging.

I'm glad men and women have and continue to sacrifice their lives so idiots like this can have the freedom to be such idiots. But this guy's idiocy begs to be corrected.

This flaming **** actually had the audacity to state that Pat Tillman "got what he deserved".!!

This isn't partisan liberal bull****, this is plain old fashioned ignorance and lack of respect.
This Puerto Rican piece of trash should be deported in several boxes.

And the editor of the paper it was in should be removed
from his/her position.

I hope I never meet either of those two. I'd hate to spend the night in jail over their ignorance

Ignorant:
unaware (adjective): uninformed, badly informed
rude (adjective): bad-mannered, ill-mannered, impolite, ill-bred, inconsiderate

Given the definition, I'd say "ignorant" might apply to the editor, but is putting far too kind a face on it as far as the author of the piece is concerned, 'gater ...

The author is a no-good sh*t-for-brains a$$hole who's living large off the efforts of real men whose shoes he isn't fit to lick ... I agree with your suggested deporation ...

I have never had anything burn my ass more than this ignorant Gonzalez POS and his stupid, narrow and left wing statements!

This jerk should not be allowed to enjoy the freedoms that are accorded to him because of men like Pat Tillman and others who have fought to maintain those freedoms and rights!

Agree with tailgater, as I would like to tar and feather the ignorant slime!

btw ... I've gone to the Daily Collegian Website where I found a means of posting a response to Rene's story ... and I posted one. Needless to say, I was not at all supportive of this 2-bit punk ...

well well well. good ol' amherst does it again. we had a saying there: "the world jolts, and anything loose flies to amherst." *chuckle*

the town of amherst itself is chock full of extreme left thinking folks. if you don't recycle, i think it's now grounds to be lynched in the commons -- so long as it doesn't interrupt the annual "let's make marijuana legal!" protest event and mass toke-up there.

believe it or not, UMASS (or ZOO-Mass as we used to call it) is FAR from a bastion of liberal thought. for the most part, it's a big party school. and (oh fun!) frat row is on town property. :P

the TRUE bastion of extreme leftism is "Hampster College" (Hampshire). at Hampster College, fire alarms were always going off -- too much marijuana smoke in the rooms. imagine that.

of the 3 schools in amherst proper, UMass is probably the most conservative. it is NOT, however, full of the brightest bulbs by a long shot.

by the way, the Scooby Doo characters are rumored to all based on the area five-campus system schools:

Scooby: UMass (party animal)
Shaggy: Hampshire College (hippie pothead)
Daphne: Mt. Holyoke College (rich girl)
Freddy: Amherst College (pretty boy preppy)
Thelma: Smith College (the dumpy lesbian)

NOTE: the battle rages on -- Daphne may be a smithy; Thelma may be a mt. holyoke lesbian, not a smith lesbian (both are prestigious all-women schools)

anyway. doesn't surprise me AT ALL that this piece of crap goes to ANY school in amherst.

I've now had some time to cool off.

Instead of deporting the thankless prick in about 5 crates, I'm willing to settle on 3...

you're a better man than I am, 'gater ... I just can't seem to get cooled off on this one ...

I've still been holdin' out for 5 but have decided I could be talked into just one ...

IF they were to first outfit that sorry a** m****r f****r in cammies, then ship the crate to Afghanistan or Iraq, then, just open it and say g'bye ... just let him take off on his own and see how far he got before wishing that someone just like Pat Tillman were on hand to protect him ...

We should do with this creep what the Germans did with the Italian army in WWII. Chain his ass to a machine gun in one of the Hotbeds of battle and tie him into the position, leave his useless ass there and see how he feels about the poor Al Queda, etc as they run an RPG into his useless carcass!
What a piece of sh-t this liberal stupe must be!

Some little boy speaking from his vast 21 years of experience and knowledge ... most of his "opinion" probably regurgitated from what he heard from his "red diaper doper baby" professors.

Haven't been posting much of late, but this really gets the dander up! Even the most far left wierd nutcase cannot defend a statement such as this one..."Pat Tillman deserved...........", It just makes me so damn mad that I cannot even think of an appropriate response!

After receiving multiple threats of violence the little **** apologized. Someone should walk up to him and kick him in the balls and when he comes around apologise, then he would understand the how much weight his apology carries. Any volunteers? JonR

Rich, Rich, Rich, why in the world would this dumb@ss story be inline with the libral way of thinking? Librals don't bash Pat Tillman, rather this article is written by a thoughtless piece of garbage, end of story. I'd be willing to bet that Mr. Gonzales has already had his @ss whipped by now.......as he should.

428, no offense, but I fail to see where being a policeman is sacrificing for Good and Man......it's a job that MANY (not all) people take to satiate their power-trip needs because they don't have the mental capacity to further their education and strive for something better (FBI, Federal Marshals, Secret Service, etc. excluded).

This is not a liberal/conservative thing; however, I will bet the Profs who spoke out about this the loudest are all far left wing people......way to the left!

Many Police Departments are requiring college degrees for the officers now days!

Charlie

PS Pat Tillman had more guts and desire than any collegiate football player I ever saw play! He had long hair stringing from his helment and played linebacker in college when he was the size of the kick returners and defensive backs!!!!!

Obviously, Rene Gonzalez failed to realize that Pat Tillman gave his life defending this country and his right to be an idiot. I hope that in the future Mr. Gonzalez remembers that it is better to think before spouting out BS just to draw attention to himself. I wish Mr. Gonzalez no ill will as long as he learns from his mistake. If he can’t, then I only hope that he is un-justly ridiculed upon his death.

Sonny I disagree with your statement concerning policeman. I think that most police officers go into law enforcement with the best of intentions. Let’s face it. There are a lot of jobs that pay better, have better hours, with less BS, where you don’t get shot at, that are easily attainable. I think that where you encounter most “bad” policeman is when they have become fed-up with the BS of the job. We send a huge double standard to policeman most of the time. “Give us safe streets” and “stop crime at all costs” but “don’t step on anyone’s civil rights”. It would be enough to make me snap. I have great respect for the work that 99% of the police officers do. If it weren’t for the work of my neighborhood policeman when I was a teenager, I’d be doing time right now. He basically gave me an ass kicking when I deserved an ass kicking. It straightened me out.

Ok, Buck, I retract most of the statement as it is unfair to the vast majority of law enforcement.

Charlie, the sheriff's deputies and city police in East Baton Rouge Parish don't have to have ANY college credit to enter the academy......hell, to apply to the state trooper academy all you need is 60 hrs. of college courses passed. I believe law enforcement should require a college degree AND pay more.....that way it would be more conducive to hiring qaulity applicants. Seriously, some of our sheriff's deputies are AWEFUL. However, I still don't buy this community service argument.......they chose to be in law enforcement.
