During a recent interview, Prime Minister Tony Blair of Great Britain
was quoted giving the following answer to one his parliament members as to
why he believes so much in America, and in President Bush. Blair's reply...

"A simple way to take the measure of a country is to look at.....how
many want in.......and how many want out."

If we could just simplify our immigration policy. You want in? C'mon in. Don't like it here? Then leave.
My grand-parents came here because they believed in this country. They gave up their native names because they wanted so badly to be AMERICANS. Funny, my Grandpop passed away at 96, and until them I didn't even know his name wasn't John. He learned English because he wanted to belong. We've lost that, but yet it's so easy to get it back.
Just my opinion.

Right there with ya Pco. My mom was born in Germany during WWII. My grandparents spent the majority of the war in a work camp. They came here for a fresh start with nothing.

Grandfather on my Dad's side was born in Macedonia and came over as a child.

I agree with you all. I'm a firm believer that what has made America truly great (besides the noble notion upon which it was founded) is that fact that we are a nation of immigrants. Everyone who has come here (with the exception of the Native Americans and African slaves stolen from their homes) has had the will and the drive to make a better life. And those are the people we want. We shouldn't close our doors. Instead we should (as we used to) be encouraging the best of the best from every country in the world to come here.

I'm sure lots of Al Queda operatives really want in...... They'd love to immagrate into our country in huge numbers!! To blow us up!!!

You can start to add half the Iraqi population with similar motives now after the events of recent weeks and months. They's also love to come here... also to blow us up!!!

Its amazing how much over simplified logic passes for wisdom on this board.

Short, Sweet, Precise and stupid....

God Bless America, and may he protect us from those who would see us torn asunder, enemies both foreign and domestic...

As is usually done. A statement is posted in which, in it's true form, is someones way of complimenting how great our country is, ... and then someone has to read totally off the page and call it stupid! I am getting tired of posting something that should make all americans proud and having some Jacka$$ respond to it as stupid.
Ya try and share things that should bring us pride and ya get trashed for it.
IMO people should think about other peoples feelings before posting to someone elses thread with these kind of ststements.

Don’t fret Ron.
Because many folks appreciate posts like this.
God knows some will always throw crap.
Use your patriotism and keep it up!
Ron, I personally agree with you.
Useless antagonism can be frustrating.

I personally love this country.
Some don’t

Although, we’re all stuck here together.
Needless to say, we have to work it out.

America is the best country on earth.
Some may tear her down.
Some may attack her, but I defend her.
Honestly, folks need to look past,
Old deep-rooted differences.
Let us unite for the common good.
Everyone will benefit
!

dbguru,

So let me get this straight... you believe the measure of a country is how well it can appease terrorists? What country do you believe is great…France? Spain? Russia? Or is it your dream to live in Mogadishu where millions have died from starvation in the last several years?

As for me… America has its problems, but it’s still the damn best country on earth. Who else airs their dirty laundry for the world to see?

Please don't draw false conclusions about how I feel about this country. I love this country and I am an involved caring citizen in the community. I contribute my time and energy outside my job, to community services, culture and qovernment.

What irritates me is the "Dumbing Down" the realities that we all are a part of. When someone makes an oversimplifies statement that states only part of a truth, or implies a cause and effect relationship that makes a great sound bite when in fact the relationship is far more complex, perhaps correlated but not caused, its important that we don't lose our ability as citizens to drill down to the real truth.

The point I'm trying to make is that I'm very concerned that much of our citizenry has given up on making the effort to drill down to the real truth. The sound bite is enough factual information for them to carry because in fact it is short, sweet and precise. If we as a citizenry rely just on sound bites and one sentence wisdom as our only source of truth, God help us!! Ant that, sir is my main point and concern.

The Al Queda wanting in to blow us up example was simply to refute the initial assertion on the grounds that it was way to oversimplified as a statement of truth. A severe generalization that distorts truth.
