This $hit is driving me crazy. Do any of you know of any good software to prevent this garbage? I found some from Spyware B-gone or something like that but wasn't going to pay $40 untill I did some research and talked to the BOTL.
Thanks in advance for any help...

There are so many out there it isn't even funny. Some will remove most of the spyware, but then you use another and it finds more... this is an epidemic that needs to be addressed.

I can't understand how some loser can think ruining another person's computer is fun.

Ron,

I'm very sympathetic. This crap has taken over my computer, and I am running two spyware programs (spykiller and spybot) as well as two different popup removers. And still I get this garbage, almost continuously.

I've been doing research on the web about this and found a site that is quite helpful. Check this out: www.mvps.org/sramesh2k/Popups.htm. This takes you through a series of articles and downloads and explains just how complicated a problem it really is. Protection is not just removal of spyware, but also defending against stuff attaching itself to your computer in the first place. I'm actually thinking of investing in some firewall software, just to try to protect my computer. It's a little eerie seeing how easy it is for someone to latch on to your personal space.

Good luck!

Dan

1st use Spybot (free) to clean it up, then remove Spybot and put on Pest Patrol (subscription) to keep it clean.

Spybot S&D (free program) in conjunction with SpywareBlaster (also free). Blaster hammers the Java crap. Spybot puts a lock on your internet so browser hijackers can't hit you. Both offer regular, free updates, too.

PS - SpywareBlaster is the one by Javacool. Since there are several out there by that name.

Hey Ron, I forgot to mention, here is a site that is dedicated to this stuff. . . . It's called security tango, and it gives a step by step process to clean and secure your computer. . . it starts with Stinger, goes into ad-aware, spybot and others. . . it's an amazing and educational site. . . .

www.securitytango.com

It's setup by a local computer guru who does a radio show, newspaper Q&A, etc. . . . so many of his questions he gets are about this subject, he set up a site specifically dealing with it. . . be sure to check it out. . . good luck. . .

The Ad-aware program mentioned above is a VERY good one and is available at no cost ...

go to www.downloads.com and get Ad-aware 6.0 or better

Also, once you have it all gone, look into downloading "Zone alarm" (zonealarm.com)they have a free version, firewall type program, but works great at blocking unathorized access to the net!

You might want to look into cwshredder, which will remove any 'hijack' programs that can change your home page or make your browser go to websites you did not intend. That is also free.

SPYBOT

Look, I've done my research on this and spybot is by far the best FREE spyware detecting software. Heck it's better than most you pay for. Plus this BLOCKS the baddies before they get to your system, which many others do not (like Ad-Aware). Get yours at download.com
