I heard Neal Boortz today on the radio saying that the press is realizing more and more that the passing of former president Ronald Regan is positioned to help the candidacy of George W. Bush by bringing back to memory the accomplishments of Regan’s administration, the end of the cold war, the vital economy, vis-à-vis ‘tax cuts’, morning in America, etc… And in light of this watershed of positive imagery for the much maligned (by the mainstream leftist media DEAL WITH IT MDavis!) George Bush, they (the mainstream leftist media DEAL WITH IT MDavis!) will begin the systematic and single minded character assignation of Ronaldus Magnus.

I’ve seen this begin already with some reports by the New York Times. I’m sure the avalanche of negative Regan stories and reporting will follow…

Negative Reagan stories? There's plenty. And he was heavily criticized while in office. However, he is dead. I will respect that and bury his Presidency with him.

"Global Empire
Killer, Coward, Conman - Good Riddance, Ronnie Reagan

June 6, 2004 -- You're not going to like this. You shouldn't speak ill of the dead. But in this case, someone's got to.

Ronald Reagan was a conman. Reagan was a coward. Reagan was a killer. "

I rest my case... Rick is as usual, proving my point for me.

At least Rick doesn't try to pi$$ down my back and tell me it's raining like other neo-libs on this board. I disagree with him, but I respect him (unlike others) even though I give him he!! ;-)

There were many positives and negatives of the Reagan years. For many in labor unions, it was a difficult time. The Iran-Contra scandal shook the international credibility of the United States. For those of us with investment dollars, the Administration's accelerated depreciation schedules gave us a decade of paying virtually no income tax and allowed us to grow portfolios. Now, with President Bush eliminating the inheritance tax, we can pass the portfolios to our children, tax free.

The only union I can think of that suffered was the Air Traffic Controllers. As I understand it, they did not have the right to strike for national security reasons?

Steve*R, when I make money, and pay taxes on the money "I make", and then save the money "I made" After I paid taxes on it. How many "MORE" taxes do you think I should pay to the Federal Government before I can give some to "MY" children as opposed to someone else’s?

In your opinion, what would be "fair" AFTER I've already paid taxes on MY income? Should my child have to claw his way up? Should he have to depend on the Federal Government if I have the means to put something aside for him AFTER paying my taxes on MY money?

There are two distinct schools of thought on this one. The socialist/communist school of thought believes that YOUR money is not your own, but rather, all money is the property of the GOVERNMENT! The spirit on which this country was founded believes that hard work is rewarded and believes in personal property.. Which school do you ascribe to?

Not passing judgement, your post could be read either way. I'm just currious. Your position was unclear to me.
