The other day I was listening to the radio & they were talking about the flattering statements Bush had made about Bill Clinton. They also mentioned that Clinton was starting to soften up in his statements about the administration. I can't remember if it was Bill O'Reilly, Hannady, or who, but they couldn't figure out why either one of these guys would do this.
It seemed simple to me. Hillary's plans to run in '08' would be really screwed up if there was an incumbent Democratic president in office.
I think a little deal was made somewhere.

i watched charlie rose yesterday, and clinton couldn't say enough positive stuff about bush -- both sr. and jr. he said kerry's name exactly once, and that was insignificant. he praised bush sr. up, down and sideways, and he devoted more than a little time to talking up dubya as well -- talking about how people underestimated him, and how it was a huge mistake to do that, because bush jr. is shrewd and cunning (although clinton used nicer words to describe the man) and will come out of aw-shucking to surprise his adversaries.

Clinton is is major book selling mode. He seems to be everywhere. I heard him part of the time on Charlie Rose. He's been on Oprah, this show, that show.... One thing I'm noticing in the Clinton interviews is that he is very audience aware. The context of his inteview this morning on Al Franken's show was much more stridently partisan than the Oprah show in which he was much more chatty about the Monica incident (playing to the Oprah's predominatly female audience). My main point is that every one of these Clinton interviews are a bit different from each other.

As far as the Bush/Clinton lovefest... Bush isn't running against Clinton. Frankly I don't think Clinton bashing really helps the Republican position right now. Its a misdirected effort since Kerry is the opponent, not Clinton. Bush wins points for being nice to Clinton. But in some of these interviews you can definitely tell how Clinton is hard at work against Bush. What does he have to lose?

This "strategy" is in play:

1. Elect Hillary in 2008.
2. Put out major book and book tour to "take away from Kerry campaign.......tour is scheduled for 3 months or so!
3. Gunboat Kerry without actually saying that is what Bubba Bill is up to!
4. Get Hillary elected so Bubba can be first First Man!

He is really being nice to GWB in one press conference he said, "George Bush is doing exactly what he said he would do when he was running for President" and went on to endorse war against terror the way we are fighting it!

The Clinton's are shrewd! And in the meantime, Liberal Leftist Kerry is moving more to center in his "stances" on issues.

Also I noticed that Clinton is a master of the back handed compliment. I remember him saying this morning how Nixon was a visionary on the environment. Then he went on to say that Nixons's enviromental policies would be radically left wing liberal in today's political context...
Of course this was to demostrate his assertion about how much to the right GW Bush has taken us.

I will give Clinton two things... He's entertaining in these intervies and shows a refreshing intelligence in his dialog that has been missing with GW Bush. (To be fair, Bush 41 was also sharper)

In referance to Nixon, in his day that was the the hot topic. He even signed the Alaska Land Claims Settlement Act. Which certainly would not go through the white house today.

I think that Charlie is right....I alsoo think Clinton's cozying up to Bush may be because he will always be compared to them...I'll admit that the Clinton years were good for everyone, but a lot of it had to do with the political suicide committed by Bush 1 and Clinton knows it. Also its coming to light that a lot of the problems that we are experiencing now are a result of mishandling in his administration. Clinton is looking for any type of legacy that doesn't involve blue dresses and cigars and I think he can see that by putting himself on the same side as the Bushes he will further protect that legacy...or maybe its like the old joke " I walked into a Denny's and wanted to order a hamburger, then I saw what one looked like and told the waitress they looked like dog food and I would never put one in my mouth, she then held it up to her face and said "how about now?" I said sure I'll take two."
