I am truly humbled with the responses received to my query. Each one was read and a plan of action is now under way. Again, my thanks, one and all. Some quick history. A young 80-year-old man on a cruise ship introduced me to the WORLD of premium cigars a month ago. NEVER…did I dream of smoking cigars. We spend many a night on deck smoking and talking. I was introduced to other men, men from all levels of the financial scale. To put it mildly, I was profoundly impressed that cigars were the focus of this diverse group of men. My new friend invited me to C*** next January, an annual trip he has made for the last 5 years. My mind flashes red flags while the heart tells me to GO!! Another new friend on ship told me about UBID.com and the rest is history. Yes Charlie, I too have started my 10 worst smokes. They include (1) Flor de los Reyes, and (2) Thomas Hinds Vintage Lonsdale. FenwayKid: Thanks for the info on the JFK 70. I talked to Ruth this AM about the hygrometer after testing like rookie139, I believe suggested. She is sending a new one. Pork Chop: thanks, your thoughts are appreciated and welcome. Mr. Mean: Soon as I read your post I ran to the bathroom and looked for my supply of Valium. Now, I’m relaxed :-) I’ve looked for the La Perla Maduro (?) Where can I find some? Until -- (1) a new shipment of cigars arrives or (2) my problems are corrected with my current supply I’m back to Garcia y Vega. At least tranquility has returned to the patio along with my little K9 friend thanks to the gentlemen on this board and a little help from Dr. Valium.

earlt48 if Rick dosen't hook you up.Email me at [email protected] I will direct you to a site where you can purchase reasonable 10 pks. of many different cigars to try before you buy box's(including La Perla Habana's).There are sites that sell singles but most are just as expensive as your local tobacco shops when you figure shipping.Jim

Earl, it was all our pleasure. Anything that anyone can do to help another out in preserving the life of a cigar, is no trouble at all. In reading your most recent post it reminds me that I forgot to tell you one thing. In your hygrometer situation, if you really truly love your smokes, GO DIGITAL! That way you don't have to calibrate it. I've tried both the towel and the salt methods, and of course, they too have come up short. So I dug deep within myself, and finally broke down to pay like $40 a pop on a digital hygrometer. Well, it's early and I gotta go make a pot of coffee to go with my morning cigar. Talk to you guys later.

fenwaykid: you are right about the digitals. the other kind can leave the factory + - 20% and meet manufacturing standards. all the digitals ae allowed + - 5% in production. if you are handy with small calibration, there is a way to calibrate the digitals also, or you can check what they show using the salt method and simply note the deviation. it wouldn't hurt to check the calibration on the digital. 70 could be between 67 and 73, no big deal, but worth a look.

The best digital hygrometer I've found is the VWR pen style. It beats all the others I own, hands down. I think I paid $42 for mine, but it's soooo much better than the Western that I paid $35 for.

Happy herfin',
