I was a successful bidder on the robustos that closed yesterday and am bidding on the short bellicosos that close tomorrow. I, frankly, didn't expect to pick up both lots, but depending on how the bidding goes may do so. Several years ago Jonathan Drew, the major domo behind Drew Estates, got into the boutique cigar business. This was before he clicked with the Lars knockoff, Acid, and Drew Estate Naturals. He had a brand called La Vieja Habano made by Nick Perdomo. Some vendors are still closing these out. The short figurado with a rosado wrapper(4.5 x 50) is an excellent cigar. It has medium strength; perfect draw, burn, and ash; and clouds of smoke. If you can get your hands on them at a decent price, grab them. The longer figurado is still readily available (6.0 x 50) and supposedly is the same blend, but I've found them to have a much firmer draw. Because these Sportsman's Reserves have four years of age, I'm gambling that this is a very similar cigar to the La Vieja Habano, except with a different wrapper. I expect that these were actually rolled in Miami, because that's where Nick Jr. was holding court at that time. I have my bundle and don't want to hog a good thing. If you like Perdomo cigars, this could be a winner, ready to smoke 24 hours off the truck. Steve
