Watching the Democrats and their convention for a few minutes....God Help Me! But I gotta say this guy Barack Obama is one hell of a speaker!

I heard him being interviewed, on NPR, this afternoon, and he came across well. Gotta keep an eye on this fellow.

Give him time Tony,
There are already people saying that. He is a young man, plenty of time for that.

Obama could have made the exact same speech at the Republican convention and got the same response from the crowd. When he runs for president, I hope I am still around to vote for him. I bet Jesse jackson secretly hates his guts.

Can he run? I thought he was born in Nigeria but raised here.

Yeah...he's a great speaker and has a great mind too. He speaks like a human as well.

He was born in Hawaii I think. Great speaker. Especially liked the part about there not being several different America's, there's just America. Also s Bill Cosby line about taking away the stigma that says a black kid carrying a book is "acting white"

Canyon is right. According to his IL Senator biography he was born Aug. 4, 1961, in Hawaii.

Unfortunately it seems that anyone who is smart enough and honest enough to make a great president never even runs.

I certainly do not see anyone beating this guy for the Senate seat....do you hear me Mike Ditka? He is sharp and he is what we should look for in an American with a level head. Democrats (and Republicans) need more like him. Kerry/Edwards do not measure up to this guy!

Since the advent of TV, the best looking/tallest/best public speaker has almost always won. Being a black muslim might be a problem this time, though.

He's a muslim?? Well, that would explain his comment about defending the civil rights of muslims in this country... It seemed out of the blue and odd. He also seemed intent on defending the "rights" of illegals.

Hog, Americans obviously want attractive actors who are good "speech makers"--notwhithstanding their potential lack of substance (Bush being the exception--he can't give a speech and he also lacks substance).

I don't know this Mr. Obama but I wouldn't rave about the man until I researched his public record. Until then, Mr. Ditka would have my vote. He's a known entity with a straight-shooting, no-nonsense, honest approach--even if he can't read a speech as dramatically as Obama. Hey, there's always room for B-actors in politics. ;-)

Blood, why do you think the seat is open for election in Illinois?? Fitzgerald has seen enough... cannot change to the old nature of politics so he is bowing out rather then be tautored with the crap he has lived with for so many years...

my question is.. why can't the repubs muster up someone who would want the Senate seat in Illinois??

Ditka even is smart enough to bow out before the chance.. it is a sad day in Washington when no one wants to sit in under the dome and argue the rights of Americans!!!!

Jack Ryan was the Rep. in the Ill. race. Seems his personal life could not stand scrutiny. Obama is a populist who seems to believe what he says. I like what I have seen so far. Ya think he's a Muslim because he wore a black suit and white shirt? He's a Christian! http://www.suntimes.com/output/elect/cst-nws-spirit05.html

Obama is a Christian! I heard them talking about him on CNN.

Charlie

PS If he steers clear of Jesse jackson and that ilk of thieves I would actually consider voting for him....but I do not live in Illinois!

Careful of assumptions. One's name doesn't always belay one's religion.

X, I stand corrected on Obama.. it was posted in local papers back before the primaries here locally (IL) that he was of Muslum Religion people at my work and other places locally still talk about this and rant and rave about him coming into an office in Government... Good Artical BTW...

Rayder1 I didn't take it from his namesake.. it came from scuttlebutt locally here in Illinois.... and this artical link X posted should be the one floating around locally... makes one wonder why it is not in down state Illinois???
