I'm just really getting started smoking seriously and just bought humidor box that holds 100 cigars. My question is would it be better storing with or without the cellephane. Also how do I bring down my meter from 81% to 70 -75?
Thanks for helping out a rookie that loves what he's getting into.

My suggestion would be since you are new, store with cellos on. Your going to admire your cigars, move them around, wade through them to determine which you want to smoke, hell, you may roll around in em you sicko **** :). cellos on will help protect them from whatever you do. 81% good god man get them out of the shower before they turn to sponges! Get some propylene glycol and mix 50-50 with water for your solution. That will hold your humidity to 70%.

If you are like many of us, here is the scenario: First you'll buy some cheap naturals to cover about half of your dor. Then you'll try some maduro's, like them and therefore need to keep them separate, so you'll buy another 100 dor. Then you'll get the taste for some real expensive sticks and need a third dor for those. Then you'll be buying boxes to hold down the cost per cigar and you'll need some coolers to hold those in. Then your wife starts to catch on and you'll be sleeping with the dog like the rest of us. Is that about it cuzz?

then you cut up your credit cards give the dog rockets to those people you tolerate but don't like, give the average ones to your friends, give the ones you like but have a lot of to your good friends and lastly, hord the really good ones and smoke the hell out of them(so you can make more room in your humidor(s))

pd and Joe are right on the money. You may read what they say and think "Nah, I'll stay in control. I'm very happy with my Flor de Todo." Then somehow you'll get a hold of a HDM Rothschild, a La Gloria Wavell Maduro, or, if your lucky, and Ashton VSG. Then, after smoking that, your mind spins with wonder thinking "I've been an idiot. Flor de Todo is garden mulch :). I MUST HAVE MORE OF THESE!!!!" Then your life is over. Sorry.

Hell, I think they look better without the cellophane on them, and what about Excaliber, Bock, etc that come without cellophane on them, do you suggest wrapping them with miracle wrap or something. Strip the cellophane off the beauties and enjoy em! Smell em , roll in them, sort them, count them, but if you are smart............hide them from the wife! Charlie

Randy give Rick here a holler,He'll set you straight. You may not be at 81% at all and just need to calibrate your Hygrometer/meter.Is the one you have an analog/Dial type?If so toss it and get a digital.PS buy the Cooler(54 Qt. min.) now while they're on sale, this winter you probably won't be able to find one larger than a "Playmate" anywhere.LOL

Mr. Mean, pdbenz and joedayan, you're absolutely killing me. Couldn't have expressed the past 16 months of my (sorry) life. Randy, make a print of the remarks and keep it for a later date. It'll be the history of your cigar life also. Oh, the bonds we share. International Brotherhood of (sorry, but happy) Cigar Smokers. - Those "wife remarks" always make me ROTFLMAO. Let's light up another, shall we?

Cello on...cello off. The question has been asked and answered umpteen different ways. If you really have cello on the cigars the choice will depend on what you want the cigars to do in your humidor. That is if you have real cello. Some cheap, not inexpensive, but cheap cigars are using a cello looking material which is nonporous. Real cello will allow your cigars to breathe. If you have small quantities of several cigars and take the cello off before putting them all in the same humidor, they will begin to marry; take on some of the taste characteristics of the other cigars. This can make your worst cigars better and your best cigars worse. I generally keep the cello on my inexpensive to midpriced cigars. My better cigars typically arrived naked and I keep them that way. It is more difficult to keep them hydrated properly as the cello does help retain moisture. You'll see as you horde more smokes that you'll want to keep cigars of a similar wrapper together, etc. But as our herfing colleagues have said, the search and purchase can be very addictive. Set yourself a monthly budget and do not exceed it, no matter what the bargain. I really get tired of hearing guys wail about having their credit cards maxed out and their wives pi$$ed off. Determine how many cigars you'll smoke and buy accordingly. Steve

"Determine how many cigars you'll smoke and buy accordingly. Steve" but figure to add 30% more to your estimate. toby decided to collect a few beanies.
3 new bookcases later we are looking for places to show the 300 + beanies, the barbies went from 0 to 60 quickly. why not? she likes them she should have them. they all smell like cigars. it's great when a married couple are both crazy.

I started off w/ a 75 ct. humi and quicly moved to a 150. Then another. Now I've lined an old ice box so I don't have to worry about another till at least 2002. Then it's time to convert a closet. ( shaking head ) How did it get to this point....?

I've always said I would not spend more than $50 on a bx of cigars. Well, spent 100 the other day. Is there a patch for this sickness?

I think so -- they're an opaque patch, and they come in 15", 17" and 19", depending on the size of your computer screen.

Thanks for your time. I think I'm going to love this. I just bought La Gloria Cubanas and some fillers to start off with. What information you can give me would be greatly appreciated. I have smoking the Baccarats casinos and found a good web site Cigar at cost.com and found better prices than Thompson.

thanks for any information you pass on.

thanks for imput. pretty much right on line. I just purchased from cigaratcost.com and ordered some La Gloria Cubana and thought I would fill box with filler flor de togo and some hamiltons. Need to test water before settleing down. Used to smoke Baccarats thru Thompsons and what a rip-off. Sound like I need to keep cello on and buy some prop to settle %.

Thanks again
Randy
