I was pretty pissed that CA required registration of my AR15. The only good thing is that the records - keeping is so screwed up...the people running the registration have no idea what anyone has....has yet to set up a database...has no way to look up any registered "pre-ban" assault rifles and cannot tell anyone if their "pre-ban" assault weapon was or was not registered.

I still don't like anyone knowing what I have (other than my handguns). It's has struck me as a pre-cursor to an amendment requiring ALL registered "assault weopon's" to be turned in at some day in the future. Not as long as Arnie is in Office...but it may happen. Especially with the extremely liberal swings California takes.

back to the question of where do you draw the line, i think that 50 cal and below should be available in semi and full auto. right now there is regulation on all auto as there should be. as for semi auto both american and forein makes are and have been avail. for legal purchase with background checks as with shotguns and handguns. there are plenty of regulations on firearms. i just want my gov. to stay out of my gunsafe, my bedroom, and my humi!

Say for instance I want to buy an AR15. I wouldn't feel disappointed if I was required to have and carry a license...much like a driver's license. Then I need to prove proficiency with that weapon and familiarity in its upkeep and teardown.

The problem with this premise, is that as the states like to point out, driving is a PRIVILEDGE, not a RIGHT. You licence is your states PERMISSION to operate a motor vehicle. If you are a law abiding citizen, you REQUIRE NO PERMISSION to posses a weapon, this is according to the US Constitution! One other thing, while pondering the governments good faith on this issue, if the Constitution says you have the right to freedom of speech, other jurisdictions can give you broader, freedom, they can specifically allow you to say certain things, but they CANNOT make your rights NARROWER than the Constitution! However, the States, Counties and Cities, routinely narrow your rights to keep and bear arms by defining what you don't (in their opinion) have any "real" need for! Registration, licencing, and other schemes all have the potential to find out what you have to confiscate at a later date! Remember Ted Kennedy wanted to ban "Sturday Night Specials" back in the 70's and 80's and one bill he sponsored defined a frame length of less than a certain length as a SNS! Sound reasonable? HIS definition included the venerable Colt .45 Auto, Govt. Issue pistol! (1911A1) Who are YOU going to trust? Me? NO ONE!

Seems to me that there is a saying that goes something like:

"You can take my gun when you can pry it from my cold, dead fingers."

I think that that pretty much sums it up for me!

A one that has been forced to use a gun for personal protection of my family, I certainly believe in the right to bear arms. I also think our law enforcement officers should be allowed to use any weapon of their choice as most would certainly use common sense in the application. After the terror attacks of 9-11 when people were buying duck tape I was buying additional ammo.............just a thought.

I maybe wrong but I don't think any ban is going to do what is really needed. The people who should not have the heavy fire power do not buy them from the local gun shop. So how do you stop guns from getting into the hands of gangs, robbers, and the like? Its not the average Joe you have to worry about.jmho.

Why is it so readily (easily) forgotten the purpose of the 2nd Amendment?

George Washington said, "Government is not reason, it is not eloquence, it is FORCE. Like fire, it is a DANGEROUS servant and a FEARFUL master." (my own emphasis added)

The reason our founding fathers wanted arms (in their day it was flintlocks and cannon - today it could be flame throwers, fully automatics, tanks, and hand held missle launchers, etc.) in the possession of "We the People" IS FOR OUR OWN PROTECTION from our own "government."

Since YOU and I are the creators of our government and the military is the creation of our creation, WHY ON EARTH or your mother's apple pie would you trust your government's creation to possess weapons that can be turned on you and deny yourself the very means of your own defense?

Why have we forgotten why the British were marching on Lexington and Concord in 1775. They were intending on seizing the arms possessed by the Minutemen and to arrest John Adams and his fellow patriots. (POSSIBLE ANSWER?: Because we're too prepossessed in our obsession with professional sports, Hollywood entertainment, Motown music, and the like?)

Yes my fellow BOTL(s)/SOTL(s), "gun control" is what led to the "shot heard round the world." When it is in place what will then guarantee you your precious 1st Amendment right to bid and buy on Cbid and exchange your witicizms here on the Cbid forum?

My own personal fear is that our own history is but a type and shadow of our America's next bloody revolution. Who will survive? Who will want to?

IMNSHO - When they take the guns from the possession of "We the People," who's gonna protect your precious cigars from being taken next?

I seriously doubt that an average Joe is named Chai Vang and goes hunting with an SKS and 20 rounds of ammo

And I am willing to bet that the real story about this man and his background never comes out in the media
