Well, I have had everyone under the sun look at my knee after “blowing” it out about 3 weeks ago. My doc, the orthopedist, my PT, his PT, my friend who is a PT, his wife who also is a PT.

Here is what I do know from the MRI. The medial meniscus has a moderate tear and the lateral meniscus has a slight tear. Now what I don’t know is the ACL. Of all these people they just look at me and kind of roll their eyes. No one will commit one way or the other on the ACL. Yes I heard the pop, yes I lack stability in my knee (especially down inclines), and yes it is feeling better.

Next Thursday I go in for arthroscopic surgery to remove a portion of my medial meniscus and examine the rest of the knee. I wasn’t going to post, but those of you who responded to my oringial “Hey I blew my knee out today” thread might have some insight into your personal experience with this surgery. Did your MRI show an ACL tear?

Thanks,
C-WA

toby had a similar problem years ago and the doctors fixed it as they will fix yours. everything will turn out for the best, but you might not be able to play the piano anymore.

good luck.

Rick,

Sure I won't be able to play the piano, but will I still be able to play my little violin ;)?

castlewa: good luck on the surgery -- arthroscopy will be able to tell you more definitively what's up with your ACL, too. heal quickly!

I've had no experience with the ACL, but my meniscus (lateral and medial) has been badly torn. This was the original injury that encouraged everything else to spiral out of control.

Good luck with your operation. After having four recently I can honestly say it's a pretty easy procedure. Not to worry! Oh, be sure to get pictures from inside, we can compare later! Keep us posted.

Yeah, it would be nice to have access to the kind of care a professional athlete gets! Thanks for the well wishes.
