These are just my thoughts, but do any of you believe that Iran and Korea are gathering courage because they see the American public doesn’t have the stomach for war? Do you think if we united behind the Iraq war, Korea or Iran would worry they’d be the next target? I personally believe they both see how to win any conflict with America is just to hold out for at least a year and the American support will dissolve.

I’m not arguing whether or not Iraq was justified, just the implications of our division.

I agree with that assumption Sylance....

the sad thing is... it will probably come down to the use of Nukes to get the point across... and I don't mean our (America)using them just 3 yrs ago America was together and set on one focus... why does it take a tragidy to pull so many together??

look at all the previous skirmishes through-out history...

Shakespere wrote in "Julius Ceasar" "Cry havoc! and let slip the dogs of war!" In the past we have tried to resolve differences through diplomacy (We negotiated for months with Japan before Pearl Harbor). Once diplomacy failed, we recalled our diplomats and appointed our Generals diplomats in their stead UNTIL THE CONFLICT WAS OVER! The treaty with Japan was written by General Douglas MacArthur (with help from diplomats, but subject to his approval) and submitted to the President for approval. Out General/Diplomats were given ONE instruction..... obtain unconditional surrender! MAKE the other side sue for peace, on OUR terms! Somewhere after 1945, we lost the formula for complete victory. We sent teams of diplomats to negotiate with the Chinese Communists during Korea (maybe that was it, our first conflict that had THAT august body involved) We sent Kissenger to Paris during Viet Nam, We negotiated a "cease fire" with Saddam Hussein that took us twelve years to get around to enforcing! You want to know why our enemies are emboldened? They know that they wont NEED a "Marshall Plan" to get back on their feet again if they lose! We have lost the will to see our troops inflict a "Dresden Firestorm" on the Ruhr Vally, We wring our hands over collateral damage, so we don't use Arclight saturation carpet-bombing anymore! Clinton signed a treaty to do away with stockpiles of "chemical weapons" that included "Fuel/Air Explosives" and ordered the destruction of our stockpiles of napalm! You want to clear out caves in Afghanistan? drop napalm over the mouths for hours, days even, and after the fires go out send in some boy scouts to see what's left! no one will fight back after all the oxygen has been sucked out of the caves for 6-8 hours! Instead, we negotiate with people who will not negotiate in good faith (N.Korea and Nuclear non-proliferation; Iran and the same issue; Palestine and the right of Isreal to exist; Iraq and disarmament) they all will negotiate to see what WE will give up, but when the time comes for them to match our step towards them with a step towards us, they instead step back, demanding more concessions! Why shouldn't they feel confident, it will cost more than just the lives of our servicemen and women to repair our credibility as a force not to be F*&Ked with!

i disagree. NK was getting cocky before we ever even went to iraq. furthermore, i don't see us bringing our troops home for at least another 4-5 years at a MINIMUM.

all but the frigiest people i've talked to about iraq support our troops and support us being in iraq. i'd say of about 50 people i've talked to, maybe 2-3 are "bring the troops home NOW" types.

there is a LOT of support for our troops in iraq and afghanistan. there will always be a fringe element that gets a lot of play in the media -- fring always does.

so if NK and Iran are getting the message that america doesn't have the stomach for war, it is NOT coming from most americans. it would be coming from SOME media outlets who make the anti-war crew their focus -- and it is by far an overblown focus.

I don't see us bringing our troops home at all...

we will have a few bases established in the region and will be a presence there for quite some time... like as is Germany and Japan... which means we do not have to be in such neighboring country's as Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Turkey... as we have been for many yrs now...

NK is on the list of Nations who does not support the War on Terror as is Iran and Syria.. right now UN Sanctions that are not working and UN deplomacy that is fragile are the only things keeping America from fixing their Broken Wagons also...

History... Korean War back in the 50's was America.. the UN sanctioned and North Korea Marched almost completely through South Korea... and who mopped up?? America... we have always been the driving force to Freedom and at a heavy cost...

Look down through the yrs.. Conflicts it has always been America as the UN's Batting Boys... and now the Iraq issue and the pissing contest with the UN.. I would pull clear the hell away from these **** and let them fend for themselves... they screwed the pooch.... but we are the Agressors LMAO!!!!

I forget, was it Andy Warhol who said "The media IS the message".
