Speaking to the National Guard in Las Vegas...

"Right now, our troops over-stretched and over-extended and the Guard and Reserve have been called on to fill the gap. As President, I pledge to you that I will end the backdoor draft of our National Guard."

I wonder how many of these guard members thought what a Bafoon???

"So today, respectfully, I’d like to ask President Bush a simple question. When our Guardsmen and women are fighting the same war as our active duty troops…when they’re facing the same dangers, and coming home in the same wheelchairs, stretchers, and flag-draped coffins…how can we refuse to give them the same resources and respect we give our Regular troops? I believe we can make better choices."

The Guard and Reserve are to make up the "Total Force" meaning they, "When Activated" fill in the rank and file of the Regular Troops with the Proper Equipment (if they've been shorted anything to begin with) Read his entire speach... what a Meathead...who doesn't have a clue of how this Own country runs it's business let alone anything about Foreign Policy...

"And today, because of his wrong choices, America has borne nearly 90% of the casualties, and paid nearly 90% of the bill in Iraq. Contrast that with the first Gulf War, where our allies paid 95% of the costs."

History Lesson... Korean War.. UN unanmously approved action against North Korea.. America took on the roll for the United Nations..America Borne 99% of the Casualties and 90% of the Bill... we could have sat on our Nutts as Kerry wants to do with Iraq,Iran,North Korea and any other country that wants to wage a Terrorist action against some other nation or our own...

Are you saying that the Korean war was a big success, Hog?

I'm wondering if you have the stats on the 1st Gulf War. I'm betting our numbers were, at least a little lower. That is the kind of coalition that would've been nice to have taken the time to build.

Now I was for the war, myself. I also thought there were WMDs. Now that we're in, I don't see any viable option other than staying the course. In fact I think I would escalate it. We've got to get that $hit under control or get the hell out. Those stretchers and flag covered caskets you were talking about are a bit unsettling.

Sketcha I just posted all the stats on another thread Penzt8 asked about a week or so back...

let me see if I can find it...

as far as the Korean War... like the 1st Gulf War... Yes it was a success as far as the "Objective" but a failure as far as allowing the Commanders of both times to finish their Missions... IE: Korean War/ Gen. MacAuthor Gulf War I / Gen. H Norman Swartzcoft... Both times the UN tied the hands of these Men and our Government... and today we see the results of both...

Nice bunch of info.

While I believe it was a bad idea to leave the Kurds in the dust, it was not our objective to go to Baghdad in '91. It was to free Kuwait. That's why Powell wanted to end it. He didn't want the world to look at us as bullies for going beyond the mission.

It's just too bad the mission wasn't to finish the job then.

Sorry Sketcha... Yes I do agree... but the whole thing is hindsight now the bad thing is... we're losing more soldiers because these messes left from the past are coming back to haunt us...
