Bush said thank you, prime minister, may I have some more (use english accent).

Amazingly enough, today at lunch I caught bits of a Fox news segment with our beloved, clueless President & Allawi.
Bush declared that we had "wisely invested" over a billion dollars on the Iraqui infrastructure (schools, roads, military, food/medicine distribution, etc.). However, my jaw dropped when he boldly proclaimed that we would have OVER 9 BILLION DOLLARS IN ADDITIONAL EXPENSES DURING THE NEXT FEW MONTHS (not few years)!!!

Has he lost his mind???!!! I'm speechless.

PS: My condolences to those who have been riffed or lost high-paying jobs in the last three years. Wait till the upcoming debates and the upcoming economic indicators--he'll be outta here!!!

Yea, our economy just keeps getting worse and worse. Well, it does if you're listening to what Kerry is saying!

Cavallo is absolutely correct.
Sorry to be boring you hog. LOL

What got my size 35 knickers in a bunch was the fact that, earlier today, I had spoken to a human resource manager at the Dept. of Justice/Bureau of Prisons who was saddened because they were laying off HALF of their staff. This is becoming the norm throughout various ESSENTIAL agencies. Yeah, they're creating a bogus/bloated Homeland Security but cutting the staffing elsewhere to the bone.

Now imagine that. The prison system is being overwhelmed with convicts but we're cutting back on guards. In the meantime, our rich president is throwing greenbacks with abandon at Iraq.

Makes sense.

Wow! You're saying that BOP is firing HALF of their staff?? I hadn't heard this. Or is this in a particular office? Maybe it's good I'm getting out of Federal Law Enforcement then!

Hmm, I read your post again and you do mean they're firing half their staff across the boards (losing guards as you said). What I can't figure out is on OPM's site BOP is still hiring for many different jobs, INCLUDING various levels of correctional officers. Maybe OPM didn't get the word to stop advertising for them?

Not trying to pick a fight here, I just can't figure out why they're firing half the staff of the entire agency yet still actively recruiting for many jobs. Doesn't make sense to me, but I guess some stuff doesn't!

^ Don't give it a second thought. I wasn't very clear, 428.

After speaking to many contacts in the B.O.P., the gist is that the regional offices are sending down directives laying off UP TO 1/2 of the staff in Human Resources, Employee Development, Contracting, etc. in most, if not all, of their penitentiaries. The people laid off are sometimes offered transfers to horribly isolated locales. Most of them also "guarded" the convicts as needed. The remaining ones are now doing the work of 2-3 people and burning out. They worry that things could get worse.

I find it difficult to believe that they're hiring new correctional officers, when so many seasoned ones are being let go (involuntarily). The (few) new hires are probably being sent to newly-opened, "out of the way" (isolated) locations that are hard to staff. They may also be earning less at the entry level.

The fact of the matter is that ALL of my contacts throughout the Government (EXCEPT for one agency) say there is NO money!!!

This doesn't stop us from squandering our limited $$$ on a freed people who should be using their own oil money. Instead, this money sits in a special account accruing interest.

In the meantime, businessmen in China and India are getting rich thanks to the current administration.

Departmental level cutback. Admin personnel are now considered essential?

WHO was Persident when NAFTA was signed (hint: a DEMOCRAT!)
WHO was one of the miscreants who voted for it? (hint: initials- JfK)
Who was in State-level politics at the time, and had no vote nor veto options on this particular issue? (hint: middle initial W)

If you had read my comments carefully, you would have noted that the most of the admin staff is also expected to guard convicts on a part-time basis.
I still stand by what I've been told--we're cutting back on prison guards while the overall convict population skyrockets. WHY? Because there's NO cash!!!

Dubya may not have been one of the votes for NAFTA, but he is certainly promoting/enforcing its implementation with GLEE. If re-elected, he will also initiate the Central American version of NAFTA--CAFTA! I guess we can only have so many industries, high-paying jobs, and farms in the states before our rich president decides we should share the wealth with India, China, and other developing countries by hiring them instead.

As a one-worlder he LOVES outsourcing. It's cheaper...

That's something that a lot of people who are NOT farmers, engineers, entrepreneurs, factory workers, etc. will never fully understand. What do they care as long as the get their bi-weekly "fix" from Uncle Sugar. Where do you think the $$$ will come from to buy "out-sourced" products in the future if we are also relegated to third world status? Yeah, we will have a powerful military but what will they be defending?

If you don't get it. That's ok.
You're beginning to see the ramifications of his neglect.
