Holy Crap....
The company that makes Vioxx pulled the popular anti-inflammatory drug from the market today after concerns it increases risk of stroke and heart attack. The move comes after a recent clinical trial linked the arthritis drug to these potentially fatal conditions. Get the full story.

I guess that clears the way for Pfizer to make a bundle.

Actually, I bet the only reason they pulled it is for fear of excessive lawsuits.

Don't know about lawsuits... but found this
However, Garret FitzGerald, who is chairman of pharmacology at the University of Pennsylvania, says that he believes the finding of an elevated risk of heart attacks and strokes applies to all COX-2 inhibitors.

FitzGerald theorizes that trials of Celebrex and Bextra did not reveal the problem because, unlike the Vioxx trials, they allowed participants to take aspirin, too, which has proved to reduce the risk of cardiovascular problems.

I'm not to sure about any of these Meds with that COX-2 crap

So what else is out there for the joint pain from RA.. well I'll let you know as soon as I get back from the Docs LOL

I'd probably stay on a cox-2 inhibitor even with the increased heart attack risk. You already smoke cigars and have more risk from that than Vioxx could ever give you. No medicine is without risks. Did you know that the medicine that causes the most hospital visits every year is ordinary aspirin?

i've been on at least 4 COX-II inhibitors-- the side effects were minimal (though present, esp the GERD)... but so were the benefits. i still get better anti-inflammatory results with plain ol' ibuprofin.

"plain ol' ibuprofin." is what I've gone back to until I get to the Doc... I'm looking into straight herbs course my insurance doesn't cover this but cost wise and health wise it's looking the better route..
