The Atkins diet is not at all horrible ... I went on a modified version of the Atkins diet and lost quite a bit of weight ... I got feeling pretty damn good about myself ... so good that I started cheating a bit ... eventually, I "fell off the wagon" completely with the idea in mind that I knew what was happening and could reverse the process anytime ... I've now gained back a bit more than half the weight I lost, but not because there is anything wrong with the diet ... it's my own weakness, no more, no less.
There is an epidemic of obesity in this country ... that Krispy Kremes and/or Twinkies are having a tough go of it is, as far as I'm concerned, tough (deleted) ... I'm among the nearly two-thirds of adults in this country who are overweight, and strictly speaking, probably rank among the 30 percent who are obese ...
Krispy Kreme having to close a plant isn't sad ... sad is the increase in the prevalence of overweight children and adolescents of both sexes (approximately 15.8 percent of children aged 6 to 11 years and 16.1 percent of adolescents aged 12 to 19 years are considered overweight) ... those facts are not only sad, but should be disturbing to everyone ...
It's not a matter of appearance, but of health ... overweight and obesity are associated with increased morbidity and mortality and are considered risk factors for other chronic conditions such as diabetes and certain cancers, including cancers of the breast, colon, kidney, esophagus and endometrium. An estimated 400,000 adult deaths each year in the U.S. are associated with obesity. Total costs (medical costs and days lost from work because of illness, disability or premature death) from obesity in 2000 were estimated to be $117 billion and those figures have risen in the four years since.
Thanks ... for making me think about this subject ... your post got me thinking and I've decided to get back on my diet and take the weight off ...
