doing some onsite inspections yesterday at a client's new house in N. Virginia, we were on the 2nd fl looking out over the property, and the owner noticed a lone car moving slowly down the block, with the driver looking over the property.
my client had a new truck stolen out of his front yard abt two weeks ago, so he was very watchful. while we were looking, we noticed a young man running from between the houses and get in the back seat, followed by another young man from the other direction.
my client cell phoned the police, who were waiting for the car when it came out of the dead end street.
we watched the questioning, and the subsequent arrest of the three for stealing campaign yard signs from the area. (when they popped the trunk, it was packed w/ signs - we could clearly see this from the 2nd fl of the house).
quiz question: which presidential candidate's yard signs were being stolen?

my guess, assuming that we're talking about presidential candidates, is they were stealing bush/cheney signs. tell me if i'm right, and i'll tell you why that's my guess.

No - my wife's uncle is an IL state rep. his name is Bill Black (GREAT GUY). So we get all the signs we can handle. I live in the Peoria area and I just saw that you were close. - Gunflint

They were stealing Bush/Cheney signs

Democrats are feeling a little desparate, especially the democratic voters. Voters are feeling desparate, dismayed and disappointed that the party couldn't produce anything better than Kerry to displace Bush.

This is the act of desparation.

well, i'm glad to see that this little thread brought a couple of you 'gar smokers together.
side bar - on the way back from a universal housing design conference today, while enjoying a very nice indios in (almost)the last bastion of where i can smoke (my car), i heard mr. edwards state that mr. kerry, being installed as president, will have parapalegics walking! i thought mr. benny hinn and his brand of faith healers had the lock on such claims. as the conference i just attended had a high percentage of 'permanently seated' people, i imagine they will be somewhat perturbed by such an utterance...
back to point - i know this is not indicative of all of the opposition party, but these thieves were stealing bush/cheney signs.
now, lofty, please post as to why you thought you knew this - my beautiful bride (who also partakes on occasion - be very jealous as well, because she gives e-chick a run for the money IMHO) reminded me that i am allowed to smoke in my own home.

i never claimed that i thought i knew the answer. i just have a reason to submit my guess. bush supporters seem pretty confident -- almost arrogant -- that he will win. in their minds, it's impossible for most of the country to vote for kerry. it just doesn't make sense. kerry supporters, on the other hand, seem truly concerned that their candidate will lose and for good reason. he's been trailing in the polls for most of the year. when i talk to bush supporters, i get the idea from them that they are not at all worried. they are comfortable with what the polls are saying. they don't care about what the media says about the debates. they simply feel they are in the majority in this country. their confidence doesn't breed that kind of behavior.

this is just an observation i've had of those i've spoken with. maybe i've got a cracked view of society. who knows? btw, i support bush. i know what to expect from him in the next four years. kerry scares the hell out of me. i don't know what he has planned if elected. my support of bush is mainly stemmed from a distrust and disrespect of kerry. he's a terrible liar, and for him to serve as commander in chief would be a tragic disgrace, in my opinion.

thx, lofty for your 'guess'. i think your reasoning has some merit. i've never been able to mind-read, but human nature has the ability to justify whatever behaviour one may partake in. if your philosphy is 'the end justifies the means',stealing campaign signs is a minor offense. daddy said stealin' is stealin', so even if i am vehemently opposed to a particular candidate (and we get some real doozies here in northern virginia), it's not my right to use illegal means or tactics to keep them out of the public eye.
speaking of my gray haired dad, the 83 yr old is 'scared as hell of kerry'. he's been a rather pragmatic yet knowlegable old coot for his political points, generally a conservative democrat. even clinton got two votes. w was the first republican he voted for since reagan 2nd term.
me? i'm 5 steps to the right of atilla the hun. even the local pols (liberal caucasians - go figure)call me an 'arrogant racist ****'. my black and latino clients find that funny as hell - and call my office asking for the 'arrogant ****'(sounds great in spanish), introduce me to their friends and family as such - do ya think i can milk this into a career?

I didn't see this until just now, but I'll share my thoughts I had as I read along. My first impression was Bush/Cheney signs. Why? I've heard several reports of this going on, all over! I have to STRONGLY disagree with Lofty about the arrogance, at least I HOPE not! Bush and Kerry are close enough in the polls, that retired New
Yorkers voting absentee in NY, and in person where they are actually living in FL could turn the tide, especially when coupled with the voter registration drives in WI, where you don't have to show an ID to vote! As the Democrats always say... "vote early, vote often!"
