THE WASHINGTON TIMES

The Army is negotiating with civilian leaders about eliminating a women-in-combat ban so it can
place mixed-sex support companies within warfighting units, starting with a division going to Iraq
in January.
Despite the legal prohibition, Army plans already have included such collocation of women-men
units in blueprints for a lighter force of 10 active divisions, according to Defense Department
sources.
An Army spokesman yesterday, in response to questions from The Washington Times, said the
Army is now in discussions with Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld's staff to see whether the
10-year-old ban in this one area should be lifted. The ban prohibits the Army from putting women
in units that "collocate" with ground combatants.

perhaps they should talk to the israelis. they stopped it and they must have a good reason for stopping it.

The Israelis disbanded those units due to disproportionally high losses during the 3 and 6 days wars.

THL

you are correct of course.

in battle it is better to wound then to kill. the wounded require the assistance of other soldiers eliminating from battle more then just the wounded.

israel realized that in the course of a battle, a wounded women would be cared for more then a man. the soldiers natural instinct to protect women would distract them from the battle at hand.

when you think about in retrospect, it makes perfectly good sense to keep women out of direct combat.

I would say no to women in combat and also to woman (reporters imbedded) with our troops.

Everybody,

Please don't fall for all the polictical hype flowing so freely today.

Convoy Charlie, has come under attack. There are 3 Mad Dawgs in it (female soldiers), do you think they lay down. The entire sandbox is hot, so all soldiers are combat (men and women).

Once gain read into the lines.

And reidqa, don't let yourself fall prey to the opposing hype. The laws of biology, physics and human nature argue against you. No matter what, men and women are different. It is the rare, exceptional woman who has the strength, speed, agility and killer instincts of the average man. That's just how it is.

Hi,

Don't know if you read, my duaghter is deployed. I guess you would have to say that to a guy in the bar who lost 2 front teeth and landed in his buddy's lap. Now that is a funny story she got cleaning detail for a week, had to punish her in some way.

I also guess the nazi's who fell in the sights of the Russian Women (who were vicious) fighters.

Lets see a leftist with a piece of paper or my daughter with a SAW (Swift Action Weapon)during an attack. I know who I will be standing behind :).

THL is right on here. I knew women in the Air Force that thought they were tough. The smartest and toughest women knew better. They knew they couldn't compete physically. It's funny how the women that thought they were as tough as men weren't even as tough as some of the women.

Women and men are different -- period. Men, generally speaking, are stronger, faster, and just plain tougher. There are, of course, exceptions, but they are exceptions, not rule. reid, I'm sure you've got one tough little girl, but don't overestimate her strength compared to men.

Lofty,

You are correct, she is not as tough as men in the military. The cvilians naaa she could hold her own.

Why she has been military training since HS, and loves to nub a robusto (Maduro). My wife and I often joke about marriage. We will know who will run the house, and for god sake keep the knife away in bed (we don't want a mistake of nibbing a cigar:).
