1n jan 2008 the dow was over 12000

bush managed to get it down to 9325 by oct 2008.
and he left it for obama at 7062. if he stayed a few more months, who knows how low he could have gotten it.

the dow is now higher then it was when obama and his steam took over the bush **** pile.

The market did not start diving until Obama started leading in the polls. You always see a drop in the market when a Dem Pres leads in the polls.

the market always drops when there is a high or low tide.

the people that make money in the market are the people that tell you when to buy and sell. that's why they applaud at the end of a session, they know how much money they made

Rick, when will you learn - when something bad happens with Obama in office, it is his fault and the fault of the liberal America hating commies that support their president. When something good happens, it is because of something else.

You need to stop using your brain and simply apply the above formula. It is extra effective if you toss in a snide remark about collard greens, street gangs, or welfare as a "joke" - it won't be racist of course, because I'm sure you have friends that are black.

This is what you have to do to be a good, patriotic American and a contributor to this board.

Excuse me...hate to throw the baby out with the bathwater, but is spending ANOTHER Trillion dollars the prudent thing to do when Paulson suggested it 6 MONTHS AGO he was rode out of town on a rail.

No, this is Obama's economy. Make no mistake. The blame or credit falls on only his shoulders...well, those and the criminals he put in place!

Paulson proposed buying the assets, but instead just gave the money away.

The fact that you try to pin this mess on Obama is telling - he has made mistakes but was handed this steaming pile when he got into office.

Amazing how much selective memory and revisionist history are required in order to be a partisan hack. Your assertion is laughable.

Funny, I remember how the libs painted Clinton's dot.com bubble burst on Bush because he was President for the same amount of time Obama has been in office.

You forgot that didn't you?

Nothing partisan about it either. Stating fact. When Obama signed the bills it became his economy.

Now to address the matter that I raised to begin with...let's talk about the additional 1 TRILLION that Turbo Tax Timmy is going to need just for these "toxic assets".

Fed already printed an additional Trillion...Obama's bill is looking more like 8-9 trillion because he had his "figures" all wrong...that's including the interest. We're almost up to $160K per man, woman and child and we haven't even tackled universal healthcare, education and "Green" jobs yet!

Let's not let real facts get in the way...let's still talk about the last guy...the what did you call him...pRESIDENT...yeah...keep your focus on the prize Sparky.

I'm not talking about the last guy - I am talking about the economic conditions Obama faced when he got into office.

You must really be pissed about having to defend Bush for so many years, huh? The mental gymnastics that required have obviously scrambled your brain. It's REALLY funny to watch.

I'm not mad. I was disappointed.

W let me down. He said he was a "compassionate conservative"...whatever that means...he was neither.

He spent like a drunken sailor and the spending continued to new highs once Pelosi and Reid took the reins. Obama has spent almost close to 4 times the total amount that Bush spent in 8 years in less than 60 days.

Focus your energy...you're talking about something that isn't part of the equation. You've been HOODWINKED!

And if the stock market tanks again, we'll have the same people trying to deflect blame from His Excellency Barack (Idi Amin) Hussein (boy whiner) Obama.

I seem to remember when the stock market dipped during the Bush administration, there was a lot of blame being thrown at Bush because of his handling of the economy. Of course, when it went to an all-time high, there was little to no credit assigned to Bush either.

What's good for the goose...

You guys are too funny.

I have a big boat. I spend a lot of money to upgrade the first class staterooms at the expense of hull maintenance. One night, the boat hits an iceberg, which pierces the weakened hull. The boat begins filling with water, slowly at first, and then at an increasingly alarming rate. The poor folks in steerage are forced to flee to the decks, some are sucked out of the hole to their deaths, and some have to move in with their parents. Fortunately, I have reached mandatory retirement age, so I am helicoptered off of the boat as it continues to fill with water.

The young upstart replacing me immediately has powerful bilge pumps flown in to empty the water. He (slowly) brings in skilled divers to fix the whole. And he orders a comprehensive examination of the ship's hull and other essential components I had to let slide so I could hook up my buddies in first class. This all costs money, and people are trying to blame it on me.

Fortunately for my reputation, my friends still on the boat are blaming the whole mess on the new captain. "There's a hole in the boat, and it's your boat, so it's your fault!" they say to him. "You are spending more money trying to keep the boat from sinking than your predecessor did on gold-flaked toilet paper and caviar baths in the first class staterooms!" they scream. "How dare you!!!"

So far, it seems to be working, mainly because most of the people on the ship, and especially me remaining friends are extraordinarily stupid, gullible, and angry about their own lives and need someone to blame.

But what do I care? It's his ship now. I'm back at home, building a library that will tell the story of how I kept every part of that ship in tip top shape.

^ Actually, a more appropriate comparison is that the new captain makes the claim that he'll bring in even bigger bilge pumps, but instead buys three buckets, hires six illegal immigants to bail out the water, and uses the rest of the money to redecorate the first-class cabins.

Hmmm.

When the market was tanking from every spoken word, the left were crying that it's "not His fault".

Now that it's doing well for an entire two days?

The crickets have been replaced by chest thumpers.

Let me ask you: When it drops again, are you willing to admit that it's Obama's fault?
If not, then return to being silent. You made much more sense...

For the record, I like the current tactic even though it is only a short term fix.
These "toxic assets" will probably come back to haunt us, but the market needed a quick dose of Dr. Feelgood, and Geitner finally did something right.

We can never pay it off, my friends. NEVER.

Think about that.

Actually, the point that Rick is making in the OP, and that I have made in other posts is that the market decline dating all the way back to October has been blamed on Obama rather than on the economic realities that precipitated it. Only in the case of Timmy's first "announcement" was the drop clearly in reaction to the something the Obama team did.

And, since there have been dozens of threads bashing Obama and blaming the market fall on him, there are some of us who wonder if yesterday's rally will be acknowledged.

Of course we know what the answer will be - evasion, schoolyard taunting, and the occasional mildly racist joke (he's BLACK, get it?).

But it's fun to piss of the right wing lunatics, which fortunatly for all of us still does not exceed 98.2% of the board.

When did it become Obama's economy?

When he announced who he'd have running the Treasury Department.

A thief. A cheat.

Someone who withstood Obama's vaulted vetting process. Scruitinized and expunged sent through the wringer until not a speck of grime shown through...or so he'd like us (well, thinking people at least!) to believe!

Turbo Tax Timmy is at the bullseye of this entire swindle. Not only with Bear Stearns and Lehman Bros....Nooo, this goes deeper! Invoke the Federal Reserve to go on a power grab to rival only their cash grab (which certainly looks like a goldrush for taxpayer dough!) all the way through AIG and who gets what and when they get it...quid pro quo.

No, you can excuse Obama all YOU want to. He's dirty in this all the way up to his eyebrows! This fraud, this swindle that was perpetuated by Fannie and Freddie to rip apart Capitalism to its core was and is controlled by the Dems. Turn your head away from the scene of the crime, that's all right. Bash on Bush some more. Obama's approval numbers are dropping. The sleepies are being removed. People don't like it when you piss down their backs and tell them it's raining.

Market down today. Thanks Obama. (Glad I shorted at the close yesterday 'cause I'm kinda hedged out now)

The trend is still when Obama and Geithner talk, the market drops. I really really really wish this weren't true and expect more from my President. Obama and Geithner have talked up the market exactly one day in two months. The "Depression of Hope" Tour was highly successful but now we're at quarter end and need to mark up some 401K statements.

21. In this case the boat is sinking because the Captain and his Troops were firing missles into it for the last 8 years while trying to take it over.
Fortunatley many people like me will never forget or forgive him and his Army for what they did.

I totally get it.

It's just like the AIG mess - they ruined the company and had to take taxpayer bailout money because their detractors were accusing them of being nearly insolvent. If AIG's opposition had just remained quiet, all would be fine and they would never have needed a bailout.

Yes, your logic is astonishing.
