BEER????? ... wow, I had NO idea beer could make you hit the ball further ... had I only known, I mighta put down more of it ...
oh, wait ... check that ... I have NO idea how the hell I coulda put down more of it than I did back in those days ... it sure as hell didn't help, either ...
Moving on, before I buy into any part of your argument, Beat, you're going to have to 'splain to me exactly how booze and/or coke could enhance performance ... distortion of judgment (ergo, diminished eye/hand coordination) seems the more likely change ...
From here, (this won't make any of BarryBuddy's apoligists happy, so perhaps it would be better if they didn't read more) the view is that Bonds was (is?) a user ... and most clear thinking folks agree ... his apologists who've somehow overlooked his many shortcomings are apprehensive that their idol is about to have his image (and his stats) severely tarnished ...
Let's face it ... baseball, like NO other sport, is a numbers driven game ... and performance enhancing drugs unfairly distort those numbers ... users have gained an unfair advantage over those who for whatever reason are unwilling to be on the juice ... it's no longer a level playing field ... as it SHOULD be ...
Existing rules don't help much because much of this stuff, including the stuff most of us are pretty sure your boy used, weren't even known about until very recently ... no test could reveal their presence, no way (they thought) they could ever be caught cheating ...
The stuff McGwire was on was not against the rules then, but it is now ... that was an unfair advantage to him ... the stuff Barry, Jason, Ken, Jose, Gary, etc., etc., etc., are or have been on should be illegal too ... ALL of it should be ... and users should NOT be crowned as some sort of hero ... their "achievements" should be noted as having been attained by means of drugs, not by superior ability alone ...
The whole thing makes me sick to my stomach ... I love the game, but detest cheaters ... my vote is to toss them and all their so-called records right out of the game. Period.
