My recent sore throat did not deter me from going down to the meadowlands to watch my beloved Patriots woop some butt. But it did prevent my Saturday smoking enjoyment during a "heat wave" of sorts here in the North East. And it did limit my game day intake to only two smokes. My question is this: Do you still smoke when you have the flu or other ailment which would give you a sore throat or limit your ability to taste and smell?

YES!! neither rain nor wind nor sleet nor hail or pneumonia will stop my lips from puffing a cigar. the first day out of bed 7 years ago when i had my first angioplasty, first day out of bed i went to the outdoor patio to fill my lungs with air and my mouth with the cloud from a cigar.

Smoking a cigar when I have a cold helps clear my nasal passages!

Yes, and drink some Jack Daniels, three fingers worth, over 4 or 5 ice cubes with a splash of water. Charlie

If I can't taste it, then no.

Why on earth would you want to ruin Jack Daniels by watering it down?

The cold virus cannot live above 105 degrees F. If you catch the cold or flu before it gets in your lungs, by smoking a hot cigar, it could kill the infection. There is actually a company that will be marketing a hot air device for this purpose. But a hot cigar should do the same thing. This is not BS.

there is an over the counter med called ZICAM it is a nose spray/gel. if used at the first sign of cold or flu, it stops the growth of the virus and reduces the sick time.

OK, I've got it. Feed a fever, smoke a cold. But what about SORE THROAT? If all I had was an abundance of snots, then I wouldn't have asked. Besides, when the snots get on the cigar it deters the occassional newbie from asking for a puff...

For SORE THROAT: get some cayenne pepper and mix it with a little water and lemon juice and gargle every 2 hours. Smoke a hot cigar after 12 hours of treatment. Drink a shot of bourbon the next day. This is sound advice.
