OK, let's toss this one out, what say you about this John Walker Lindt (I believe Lindt is correct) that was captured fighting for the Taliban? I believe he should be tried as a traitor! Opinions? Charlie

I believe he should be treated as any other prisoner of war. Should he be released, his citizenship should be revoked.

Great. Then he can live in the US with the rest of the illegal aliens and foreigners with expired visas.

I think he should be executed as a Traitor, and never should any citizen who took up arms against the United States be allowed to walk the streets of America! Or we could drop him from the same height as the WTC with no parachute and tell him to trust in Allah to save his miserable, turncoat ass! Charlie

He is nothing more than a traitor and should be treated as one. Todd

I read that he cannot be tried in the U.S. for treason because no one witnessed any crimes committed against the U.S. This is what I read but my feelings are otherwise!

Bull Poopy!

The fact that he was caught fighting for a foreign army is enough to convict him of treason in front of a military tribunal. I hope they do. It's not like he has a choice. If he comes back the US and lives near me, I might consider personally revoking his citizenship--:)

How many hundreds of thousands took up the cause against the Union from 1861-1865? Now That I have your attention, I am not defending him. I am merely presenting the same case that will probably be presented when his trial comes. Though these men were allowed to continue their lives, their actions were considered treason as well. My own personal feelings? I hope this F*cker gets shot! And the South will rise again!

I really don't think they'll make that argument in court because it's untenable.

First of all, understand this: The Civil War is a very unique situation. It involves one country reanexing a part of itself in order to serve the common interest. There was no true treasonous act taking place. Consider the definition of treason. It is generally considered a malitious act against the state. Now, the folks in the civ didn't do anything bad to the North. They simple said "screw this, we're leaving". The real agression came in when the North tried to fight their way back after they refused to recognize the confederacy. What's interesting here, is if the North didn't recognize the Confederacy as a valid government then they still thought of them as USA. If the north mobilized against it's own country then THAT is a crime against the state. This is a very different case.

American citizens (cofederates) took up arms, fighting for a self declared government (CSA). Whie the differences are many, there are similarities as well.

Great discussion guys, but did you hear that this creep was interviewed by the CIA man that got killed? They have a tape of him being questioned! This should make it interesting. He is a traitor and should be treated as one! Charlie

Sorry, I couldn't remember Mike Spann's name (dead CIA officer) who questioned the creep, traitor or whatever he is? I hope he gets convicted and gets the death penalty! A little harsh? I think not, not against some idiot who fought against his own country. Charlie
