Being a dedicated bottom feeder when it comes to purchasing cigars. Yes,dear. I am curious as to what these VERY expensive smokes offer that cannot be found in something cheaper. I cannot imagine spending this amount of money on a cigar. I am not here to upset anyone who does like these. I am only looking for information. Please enlighten this ignorant smoker.

Being a "bottom feeder" myself, The best way I can describe it is this.

See them half butts lyin in the street cause yer low$$ stick got hot, unraveled, tasted like poop, etc...? Spend a few more duckets and you tend to avoid that, for the most part.

Sorry Jhigh. Didn't mean to call you a bottom feeder. I just forgot to log you out after you checked your status.

Are these cigars overpriced? You bet. Add in the Ashton VSG, Diamond Crowns, Ashton Cabinet, Opus X, Padron Anniversarios and most Cubans, etc.etc.etc. (Don't forget the designer cigars like, Acid, Natural, some of the Bahiaa, Perdomos, CAOs, etc.)

It's all about supply & demand. Many of the above mentioned cigars are super premiums. They ARE great cigars. There are herfers that have the dollars to spend. The cigar boom brought on escalated prices. That equates high-ticket cigars.

Then you have cigars like JR Ultimates, Consegras, Padron, Punch, Maria Manicini, etc. Age them for some time & you have a great cigar for $1 or $2.

it is nice every so often to buy an overpriced, albeit excllent super duper cigar. you will probably take the time to set the mood, prepare the drink, wash the special ash tray, examine the trophy carefully to inspect it's perfection, that only a few people like yourself can understand, use a special cutter, and lighting it properly with a match, rolling it to insure the proper light, puffing out the first time to eliminate any match residue, and disappearing from the world for an hour or so.

A very poetic response Rick. I guess I will eventually move up to that price range for my special occasions. Right now any more than $10 is special.

I have smoked one Partagas 150 and it was great! I did not have to pay for the thing, but it costs about 38 bucks at this cigar bar in Denver, and we were celebrating a closed contract along with some very overpriced Single Malt and Bourbon! Great expense accouint spending spree! Charlie

...and at the point of perfect ignition and as the aroma of that fine, aged, super premium, hand rolled beauty starts to hit the air, my 3 year old son who has carefully filled and pumping his favorite water blaster to manufactures maximum preasures...blasts my enjoyment into a useless waste of wet tobacco.

There are very good and inexpesive smokes out there the problem is you end up smoking lots of cigars that taste like sh**,or dont burn well or you brake blood vessels because there rolled to tight, to find them. Expensive top end cigars are nice because of the time and care put into them there is usually better quality control and you dont usually get to many bad primos. Its kind of like buying meat from the grocery store yea you get some good cuts but if you want the best you need to spend more and go to the butcher. OK now I'm hungry going to go grill me up a fat steak while smoking a La Perla Habana Maduro, damn there good. Oh yea Mayorga is probably one of the best Inexpesive smokes out there In my opinion.

Since I only smoke cigars that are good from the label down (i.e. Graycliff, etc.), I recommend trying some cheapies but goodies. Sosa Belicoso's, Felipe Gregorio Nino's, CAO L'Anniversarios, Leon Jimines Belicoso's, La Luna African and Maduro Fuertes, there are many that do compare. Usually anything under the $3 range just tastes like **** at the end. No offense, but that's what I've noticed. Graycliff's are great, but not worth the price tag, imo. Ashton VSG's, Opus X, Padron Anniversarios, etc. are corporate cigars and thus don't have the passion behind them like the Graycliff's do. Camacho's are cheap and smell and taste a lot like cubans.

I understand what you are saying, but the most expensive cigars are not always the best either. I've purchased many boxes of Cohiba de Habanos / Esplendidos for $ 300-$ 400 per box from friends I know that travel to Cuba. Out of a box of 25 Cigars ATLEAST 4 Cigars will be too tight to draw.

I actually LOVE the La Gloria Cubana Serie R. This is a very well constructed cigar with a GREAT Cuban Cigar Kick to it. Try one, I'm sure you will love it. Another tip check out: www.my-havana.com Great authentic website. Enjoy!
