Just curious, but why are they called the New England Patriots instead of the Boston Patriots or another city name?

When the team was first introduced in 1960 they did play and they were called the Boston Patriots. In 1970-71 they moved to Foxboro Ma. 20 miles outside Boston
thus they changed the name to New England Patriots.

That's right. The Boston Patriots never had a stadium of their own, and when the two leagues merged to form the NFL, it was mandated that all teams have a home field with a minimum number of seats (I believe it was about 55,000). Then owner Sullivan built Schaefer Stadium on a shoestring budget. It showed. That sh*t hole is now being cut up and sold in pieces as we ready to open CMGI field next season. Probably with a Monday Night Showdown with Pittsburg! Hey RL, are you originally from Shrewsbury? I grew up in Marlboro (although some claim I never grew up). Down the Cape now. Maybe we should herf sometime.
