I have found most butane lighters, even the mid priced Colibri's to be good only for a few months. Most of them crap the bed pretty quickly even if you follow the re-filling instructions. I actually bought a $5 torch that works better than the expensive brands. Watch out for the Colibri Firebird though, they are really bad.

Somewhere I read about the effect of refilling on torch lighters and a fix that required you to pull the click cap off and adjust the plastic tube and flange above the fuel chamber. I tried that and made a mess of the mechanism. Maybe you'll have better luck.

Great observation! Do a search on "lighters" or "lighter" in the "Search The Boards" function at the top of the page to find more detail.

"Great observation" was RE: the original post, NOT the suggestion to dismantle your lighters and make a mess ;)

I have a Colibri Oscar. It crapped out. I went to their web site. They have instructions on how to fix them. I need to 'bleed' the lighter to get the air out. They gave me an 800 number to call a tech rep. I'll try to find it, if you need it.

Don't use any of them, I use wooden matches! Charlie

It's too much trouble to go through with a lighter. wooden matches are the best, but not outside.

My wife bought me a Prometheus. It's great. However, when refilling, ALL the fuel must be bled off prior to putting more fuel in.

I have a Colibri that I bought last month. I love it. So far it has performed flawlessly. Somehow it has an elegance that makes it more appropriate (in my opinion) for lighting a quality smoke.

Ohhhhhh...you guys wanted elegance. I light my Philly Blunts from my hot water heaters pilot light in my dirty basement while drinking warm MeisterBrau sitting on a cinder block and watching a 13" blue and white TV in my paint stained sweatpants and hole splattered T-shirt.

I've been told by those that are supposed to know(but then again you never know if they really know as much as they think they know) that the FUEL is more important than the lighter. If you triple or quadruple refined fuel you will get better performance from your lighter, ORV
