Last night I could not just sit and watch the Laker game. I was too nervous and had to do something, so I drug out all of the boxes of cigars (15) I keep in my CoolerDor and resorted them and condesnsed the boxes. I put all of my top-shelf cigars in one box and all of my Cubans in their own box. Of course I did the same thing with my Nics and Hondos. I wouldn't be worried about my own sanity if this was the first time I did this but it has become a ritual I perform about every two weeks. This is my third year of serious cigar smoking and instead of taking them more for granted, as time goes on, I'm getting into cigars more and more. My wife says it's an addiction. I prefer to call it a devotion. Addiction is such a negative word, don't you think?

Your not alone. I just finished doing that myself.
It's a good way to rotate the stock. Also at the same time you can check for beetles. I would say that most on this forum do the same. WE ARE SICK!

I believe that there are two kinds of cigar smokers: 1. The the casual, just to be social, will smoke a cigar when offered and may even buy one or two a week, cigar smoker....

2. And people like us who see it more as a hobby, a past time, etc.

I personally enjoy the whole process....the ritual, so to speak. I enjoy doing the the research, the shopping for the bargin, preparing and monitoring the humidor (their home) and turning a friend on to a new great discovery, and just the quiet time that I set aside each night after dinner to sit with a good book or magazine, my cigar and a beverage. It's one of the things I choose to do with my leisure time and expendable income. As an aside, I was the same way with my pipes....(I may one day go back to them as I do have some beauties). Just a few thoughts........

LOL! Just finished doing this before I logged online. Everytime I get a shipment from cigarbid, I go through this same process (2 or so times a week). Don't feel so strange, or just think of me as stranger than you and feel a bit better. I am freakin' addicted to the whole ritual of cigars (and this site), from research to bargains, to storing and maintaining, to the whole process of smoking and finally, dissecting the cigars after I'm done. I need help, serious help here :)

You know, when my wife starts in on me about my obsessive behavior towards my cigars, I can always bring her to the CB forum to show her I'm not alone. After reading, she usually walks off shaking her head and mumbling to herself. And she thinks I'm the one with the problem.

Ahhh...finally I feel understood. My girlfriend says that I "play" with my cigars too much.Every couple of days I am in my humidors doing something and every couple of weeks I turn over my stock.I do not consider this playing but it is a hobby that requires a certain level of responsibility if one is to reap the fruits of labor. Also, I consider this board part of the cigar culture that few people can understand.I have no peers or coworkers that are or have been avid cigars smokers.Occasionally, girfriend will endulge in a stick but she does not share my excitement when I tell her that I got some Padrons cheap or that I won some Asadachies way under retail price.Lastly,non-cigar smokers fail to see the research that goes into finding good cigars to smoke, how and when to smoke them and what to drink while smoking. And,I don't know if if this has happened to any of you but it has been my experience that giving cigars to someone who does not normally smoke cigars(even if it is your best cigar)is pointless.I have never been appreciated for this act nor did the people that I gave them to find them pleasurable. They were not even aware of my effort of acquiring the cigars, the cost, maintenance and care that went into keeping them.I have learned my lesson and will never do this again. This is why I feel that cigars are a solitary pastime for me and this board is my only outlet to express my passion for them.

Wow, you think you guys are sick? I cannot begin to express the satisfaction I get from sitting on the porch with a great book and a great cigar. It is by far the highlight of my evening. I have (in the last few years) extended that to an after breakfast break, and a late afternoon break as well. It gives me the opportunity to try a few different brands of smokes and then I head back online to share my thoughts in my personal humidor at Cigar Afficiados. This has been going on for some time now. Do I think we're in a bad way? No, I don't think so. I think we have found the key to our own inner selves. We are learning how to deeply appreciate ourselves and try to share that with others. The truth of it is that our own little hideaway with our own favorite brand cannot be replaced by anything, nor would I like to replace it with anything (like league bowling.....yuch). I have found what makes me happy, and that's all that counts. I hope all of you find peace and serenity in that time with yourselves, and if you find someone who shares that interest.....great. If not, perhaps its not for them.

I have just finished my first full year of cigar smoking. I have history as a nicotine addict (cigarettes), but quit those more than 10 years ago. I find myself addicted once again and feel a little guilty. I'm a registered nurse by profession (cardiology to be specific) and of course "should know better". That said, I just love trying out new 'gars and repeatedly enjoying my favorites. None of my friends are true smokers so I smoke alone except when I visit my brother-in-law who lives out of state. I, too, fondle my cigars, check out the supply in my always too small humidor and pine for more expensive, higher quality toys that go with and enhance the rituals. Love that Boston Cigar Company desktop V cutter. Too expensive to buy, but my tobacconist has one. I enjoy the search for good deals, but am always willing to pay up for my favorites. Love smokin' cigars. Schek, RN
