I'm new to the hobby and to the boards but it looks like there will be no lack of comments....
I have been buying different packs to see what I like. So far, I like the Cameroon wrappers (Don Tomas, CAO). Anybody got some other suggestions that won't break the bank?

Also, I travel overseas quite a bit. Are the Cuban sticks really that much better. If so, some suggestions on which to buy.

Welcome. If you will buy a CAO cameroon, there is not much here out of your range. I really like the Flor de Oliva Grand Cameroon, which can be had here for quite a bit less than the CAO. All of the sizes I have tried (torpedo, belicosa and robusto) have been good.

gulliver62: in your travels i would suggest a montecrist #5. it is the favorite of a lot of people. it is never duplicated so you won't get a fraud. short small and should run between $5.00 and $10.00.
i would also try a montecristo "A" considered by many as one of the finest in the world. it's a 9"+ honker that should run no less than $30.00. you are not allowed to bring back any cuban cigars, so take the bands of the ones you are going to bring back., but not too many. most of the dr cigars are as good as any cuban. the cohibas of late are garbage. i brought a bunch of empty boxes back, wrapped in string and hand carried as souvenirs. the boxes cost a buck or two and make a nice display.

if you would consider a strong cigar, try a Bolivar Corona Gigantes (Habana). very good. most of the other Cuban Bolivars are good to excellent. another Cuban cigar well worth trying is the Partagas Serie D No. 4. it is one case where the hype isnt even close to making the cigar out to be as good as it really is. try one and you wont have to ask if Cubans are better than other cigars, because you will know the answer.

The best cuban i ever had was the Davidoff Chateu Lafitte, if you wont something special, and you can get it for about 30 bucks its worth a try! Oh size i think was 8 by 52.eom

Thanks for the info. I'm off to Japan shortly and will dig some up.
Also, somewhere I saw that you (I think??) said that you had some instructions on how to replace the cheezy humidifiers in a humidor. I am setting up two new boxes and would like to give it a try. Sould I post an e-mail address?

Monte 'A' should be around $50, or I would consider it counterfeit. I've never seen one for $30 ...

Cuban cigars are not what they are cracked up to be. Not the ones being sold now, anyway. Give them a few years age, and they will be better, but now, most are too green.

Don't get me wrong, good well-aged ISOM's are a real treat, and the taste is like no other. But, on the other hand ... there are MANY legal cigars that are far superior to the Cubans, and you don't have to worry about fakes and outreageous costs.

Remember ... 95% of the Cuban cigars floating around out there, and especially in foreign countries, are fake, unless you buy the at an authorized store. They may be Cuban, mind you, but not what the band says it is. Lot's of 'farm' Cubans out there ...

Slim, I'm interested in trying the San Cristobal. What do you know about that line. As said earlier, if your buying the CAO cameroon, there isn't much else out of you price range. Sounds like you should have a hell of a time going to town in that arena.
