OPUS X Perfection #5 4 7/8 X 40 - Is it just my palate or are these way over-rated? I bought a few - put them in the humidor for a little over a week ... didn't really care for the tast ... almost reminded me of the Perdomo Robusto ... maybe I have a sinus infection or something ... input ?

If your opus doesn't come with violins, then there really is something missing.

in my humble opinion, the #5 is not nearly as good as the larger ring gauge opus x's. the perfection #2, robusto and the fuente fuente are muuuuch better.

[email protected]: over-rated. snob appeal cigar. for $5.00 probably not a bad smoke. the boxes they come in, sans cigars are going for $30.- $40. on ebay.

Tell me...its it my imagination or do the more humble cigars, even seconds, smoke better -- even burn, plenty of smoke volume, stay lit, no canoes or sputtering fuses -- than the lords of tobacco like Montecristo and Ashtons. I've had more disappointing smokes from those princes than I ever get from a peasant like Cinco Vegas. Is mine a common experience?

I personally enjoy many of the lesser brands such as cinco vegas, astral, montero, hamilton etc, but also enjoy the finer cigars such as ashtons, avo and fuente. For me it has more to do with my mood, meal and the time of day rather than price. Flavor is flavor regardless of the brand. For whatever reason the more expensive manufacturers dont neccessarily use better rollers. A plugged cigar is a plugged cigar, it's just more of a pisser if it cost me $5.00 to $10.00 rather than $1.00 to $2.00. I think this warrants a new thread called best cigar under $4.00........

mhollowa/smokerings1: I agree wholeheartedly with both of you there. The 5 Vegas, Centennial 500's, Ashtons, and Indian Tabacs (new but growing in popularity) are all very nice cigars and I honestly don't think I've had one yet that was rolled too tight. Nice smokes - about a $1 - $1.25 here if you get them at the right auction. Still, about 4 years ago I came across a plain generic type bundle of cubans, looked just like a Fonseca only with a slightly darker wrapper - I bought the bundle for $40.00 American dollars (gave him a $5.00 tip also) and got 25 of the best cigars I have smoked in the 16 years I have enjoyed cigards. I have just one of them left - salvaged after mold got into my coolidor (before I bought my Avallo humidor) - anyway - when I get the chance to (for the first time) visit my Grandfather's grave this July (he passed away last July) I'm going to smoke it and enjoy a Crown Royal manhatten ...

mhollowa, I didn't know I was supposed to get violins with my Opus. All I got was an old banjo plyer with no front teeth that stayed on my back porch fo a week. I guess I go ripped off. LOL Barry

Got an Opus X for Christmas. Well made, pretty to look at, burned straight, nice ash, nice coffin and band, both of which I still have. I didn't hear the violins, either. Still desperately seeking the perfect cigar.

To me, the situation is very important in my cigar enjoyment. Like watching my son yesterday on a beautiful spring day blowing bubbles and trying to bite them. I may have only been smoking a $1.50 Cohiba YB, but it seemed like a perfect one.

Cohiba YB? You should have joined your son biting the bubbles.

Easy draw, lots of smoke and burned cool, great for "smoke bubbles"

The Opus xXx "Power Ranger" bellicoso is a damn fine cigar. However, the Fuentes treat them as DeBeers treat diamonds, and I simply will not pay the price.

I had the same experience with my first Opus X and then again when I tried my second. No violins here either.
