Although their ideas and ideals at times clash with mine I find them for the most part highly intelligent people.

Funny how the word liberal has come to have negative connotations. The root word means free right? like liberty and liberate. Liberals generally advocate the rights of the individual and are for gradual social change. Nothing bad there. I think a lot of people are confusing liberals with radicals. Conservatives deride liberals because they generally want to maintain the status quo. Now I agree if it aint broke don't fix it. But change is statistically inevitable. Any complex system over time degrades. Change where change is needed at a gradual rate and uphold the rights of the individual. That's liberalism.

In a perfect world, perhaps. But the term Liberal has become synonomous with "bleeding heart". A person who knows what is best for EVERYONE. One who "thinks" not with his/her brain, but with their heart despite the consequences. It "feels good" to provide meals for the poor. But at what cost? Cripes, how old is that Chinese fishing proverb? It seems appropriate to increase funding on social programs. So what if said programs are doomed to fail and actually perform worse with the added funding and burocracy?. With no means to measure effectivness without "offending" any of the would be recipients, the programs wallo in futility. Did I spell wallo right? Waulo? Whatever. The Robin Hood mentality simply DOES NOT WORK, despite it's appeal when speaking to voters. The way to raise the meek is not by continually knocking down the strong. Rather, that is Socialism, and me no like.

That's "wallow". You are right Tailgater. Liberal has become synonomous with bleeding heart. And who has made it that way and associated it with democrats? Conservative Republicans. I smell a conspiracy!

Oh, did Conservative Republicans give us such great leaders as Tom Daschle and Dickie Gephardt? Or the wonderful Bill Clinton and Al Gore? Charlie

Dems are no better. They have tried mightliy to make conservative synonomous with "stick in the mud". Or "Tools of big business". It's just a bunch of name calling. People hear it enough though, it influences them at a subliminal level.

hell with these lowlifes that won't work or try to better themselves. teach them to fish and they sell the fishing pole. welfare my ass. go get a job or we will take away the free money you get from us taxpayers who really work no more 4 or 5 hundred dollars a month from us. go eat out of garbage cans and sleep in the street. we have more important things to do with our money, like give it to corporations so they can pay executives the millions they deserve for running companies that don't belong to them into the ground. and the golden shower we get because we don't have a golden parachute. i'll bet if we took 10,000 people off the welfare roles and food stamps and saved at least $500. per person, per month, we would have almost $5,000,000 a month to give to the next corporate welfare applicant who is moving his company to mexico so that mexicans can earn money to buy our products manufatured there by workers paid crap wages. and you can do like they do in texas, destroy the air and the water by letting polluters police themselves who the hell invented corporations for people to hide their personal greed and theft behind and not be subject to personal responsibility

Like it or not, corporations employ millions. And each of those millions pay taxes. Without taxes you can not feed your poor. Rick, you do realize that the government really doesn't have any of its' own money, don't you? It's MY money. And YOUR money. And if a tax break keeps a corporation in my town rather than moving it south of the border then so be it. Because with extreme rare exception, the government doesn't "give" money to companies. They simply take less. Sorry if that's not the frightening doom and gloom fed to you by your liberal medii. Is medii the proper plural of media?

Media is plural already gater. A liberal medii woud be some sort of political genie I think. James Carvell? A guy called Rush and said income taxes pay less than 50% of the federal budget. Rush did not dispute it. Interesting aint it?

tailgater: rmember chrysler borrowed money from the government and paid it back with interest. the government doesn't "give" money to companies. They simply take less" that's so much bs i can't believe you said it. offshore profits, south of the border, give me a break. we make cars. we import most of the rest from usa companies in foreign countries where the living is easy, fish are jumping and the cotten is high. you may be too young to remember, but there was a time in this country when a man got a job at a plant, factory and had a job for life. he bought his home and lived in peace with his neighbors. he got his earned promotions, and salary increases. what ever happened to the american dream? i didn't screw it up and you didn't, but someone did.

Rick. With "rare exception". I said it. I meant it. And when those exceptions take place, you can indeed whine about it. But that's not what you nor any of the Liberals mean when they claim the Republicans are in the pocket of Big Business. They are almost always, without exception, talking about tax breaks and incentives. By the way, wasn't it Carter who gave Iococca his billions?

(Looks at latest news about WORLDCOM, ENRON, looks at stock market numbers, portfolio value, then compares to 1998, shakes head, leaves this stupid thread and this section for good.)
