I was wondering if anyone knew of a reputable place to get Opus X cigars. I remember on a past thread that some guys had said that their local shops had them in stock for something approaching the list price. What I would like would be the name and phone number of one of these shops. I realize that some people might not want to give out their connections for premium smokes, and I understand. However, if anyone would be willing to share some information, I would be grateful. You can send it by email to [email protected].
Thanks.

I know they have a two cigar limit per visit for any opus X cigar.

While agreeing with Rookie's post on the other thread let me just say that most Opus dealers are bound to not mail-order their product. Of course if you look far enough you'll find exceptions. It is generally a 2 a day limit, walk in customers only. At least that's the way it is at my local store that sells right at MSRP. Sorry, ORV

I also agree with Rookie, if CB carried any Opus X. But it has been my experience, as brief as it may be, that they do not put such cigars up for auction. So there was no need to censor my comments.

I disagree. After (myself) spending almost two years at this BB, I think Rookie knows what he is talking about.

Both Keith Meier and Gonz have made it quite clear that URL's or names of their competition is not allowed. Whether or not this site sells OpusX is besides the point. Blantantly advertising another company that deals in cigars at this site is just plain bad taste.

If you do a random search of past posts, I'm sure you will come across many names and URL's X'ed out. Keep it to emails, and there is no harm done.

Sorry ... that's just the way it's done here. Since this forum is run by a company who's buisness is to sell cigars, etc., why would you want to give their cometition an edge at their site?

Is it any worse than your discussion last week on "other auctions", where you posted twice and never thought to speak of "bad taste".

Guv ... I (and many others here) have said it so many times before in eariler threads, people got tired of hearing it. I figured this was just as good an opportunity as any, to 'educate' the newer folks on this site. Besides, I knew someone would mention it eventually, and I get tired of being the CB 'police' ...

Regardless ... it still stands. It's just an 'unwritten' rule to this site, that the folks who run it will stand behind.

Slim, I have just read the main forum page. I see your point now. I will not make the mistake twice. -

Besides ... I was hoping that the, "Wow ... if they are he 'glass top' boxes, grab 'em! Those are collectors items, you know ... ;)" was me being fatuous.

I hope no one took me serious ... ;^)

Are unwritten rules really unwritten? I mean, if they are, then how do we really know it's a rule? Maybe it was written in invisible ink and you need one of them purple lights to see it...... I like purple.

No problem Guv ... we've all been there. In the beginning, I too, posted of the 'other' site thinking that because they were auctioning CI merchandise, it was OK to mention it here.

My post was quickly xxx'ed out ... LOL!

I thought it was lemon juice rubbed on it then you saw the unwritten rule. Lemons are tart. I like tarts.

I just wanted to say that I know that it is not acceptable to mention other websites or companies on this bulletin board. The only reason that I even posted the message that I did here was the fact that cigarbid has not, in the time that I have been a customer, ever offered any Opus X for auction, nor did I think that they ever would. Even so, I still asked for any information to be sent via email so as to avoid any impropriety on the boards.

What you do is write the unwritten rule using lemmon juice for ink then hold the paper over an open flame until the unwritten rule becomes a written rule which then you are allowed to break. JonR

I read it, but I didn't weep. Maybe if they put in a sad ending.

Around christmas time I was able to get my hands on 4 Opus X (one for myself and a few gifts). There was a 2 stick limit but after some good conversation about college experiences with the owner she sold me 4. They went from $15-$20. It was worth it though! The shop is in Santa Rosa, CA. and is called "The Squire", really great place!!

Where there's a will there's a way. In chi-town I frequent the 2 serious shops every 2-3 weeks. If no opus, vsg, or pad anniv in sight, I ask about expected shipments AND drop $25-100 AND chitchat personal tastes with the owner/mgr. I also call now and again. This pays off -- I'm rarely held to the stated minimums when they do come in. But of course I'm not made of $ and it would be in bad taste not to leave some for my fellow herfers. This also works with Cubans - cozy up to your local tobacconist - most are aficianados and gotta have their cubans - most will let you nibble, but expect to pay >2x what the avg. stick may cost if you were to grab a box (of, let's say monte2s from Switzerland). For opus, check out the educated cigar on the web - expensive!
