On the front page of the tab section in yesterdays paper, there was a photo of John Ashcrofte with a headline that asked if he was going too far in an effort to stop terrorism .... this and other such blather, I might point out, have come AFTER the attack ... I cannot begin to imagine the sort of bullsh** that would have come from the liberal community if some sort of decisive action (I am at a loss to imagine precisely what that action might have been, though) had been taken on speculation in advance of the attacks ... the hue and cry from the liberal left would have been all but deafening ... and just exactly WHAT action would some of these pointy-heads have advoicated, even given the benefit of the 20-20 hindsight that they now enjoy .... try to make me believe that it would have been even REMOTELY possible to take that action without what we learned on 9/11 ... given the fuss over the administration having gone too far WITH that knowledge, I don't believe any preclusive action was possible ... 999 out of 1000 Americans heard Bin Laden's name for the first time on 9/11, but the fact that he was plotting one nefarious act after another against the US has been known to the government for years ... bottom line is that IF we tried to safeguard ourselves against any and all potential threats, we'd all be barricaded inside our fortress homes ... which means that the UPS guy wouldn't be able to deliver any cigars ... THEN where would this thread go ??

Wow Rick.Maybe I'm off base here, but I can just smell the contempt in this short sentence that you must feel for people that didn't serve in the military. But I'll answer your question anyway. No Rick I never served in the Military, you see at that time in my young adult life I was a Whining Liberal, after all in most public schools and colleges it's not cool to be conservative.
But as you can plainly see, the brainwashing dosen't ALWAYS stick. Now please elaborate on WTF you were talking about ("fore arm inspection, short arm inspection") and it's relevance to Steves statement.

There was a time when some military men were hesitant to come forward when faced with the likelyhood of having an STD. Therefore the military medical community would sometimes police the ranks for symptoms (inspection). Short arm: a euphimism for ones ****. Aptly called in some cases.

: jjohnson28 -------sorry i meant no disrspect. i guess my generally overlong answers must make a short answer seem harsh. a short arm inspection was military lingo for a physical inspection of your genetalia by a doctor to see any visable signs of a venereal disease
so foresight/hindsight, forearm/shortarm jumped across a synapse and out my fingers it came. sometimes funny/sometimes not.

I agree with Steve 100%. Great analysis and articulation of the situation.
